TO STEVERegarding your discomfort with those who are members of your new "Christian" band. The way I answer questions I have similar to yours is to think,,,,"If the Lord came back today, and suddenly surprised us with the rapture of the church,,,,,,would I like my association with _________ to be a witness of my Christian life which I have given over to Him, for those changes He would make in me, to make the "new man/woman" in Christ?" "Whose opinion do I value more,,,,these people, or that of God / Christ?" "Am I being a good witness of the gospel to these who may be lost, by partaking of their worldliness?"
Paul told us we cannot completely separate ourselves from those in the world, for then how would we reach them, to take the message of the Lord to them? So, we do have certain associations with people in the world. But we should stand apart from the activities which we think would degrade or diminish our position as a Christian. Paul said an unsaved marital partner could possibly be saved "by observing the Godliness of the saved partner". That would also be true of all others. They observe our conduct,,,and if we "compromise", or are drawn into worldly activities,,,it does not please our Lord. 1st Corinthians says,,,,"you cannot sup at the table of the Lord, and the table of devils".
Sometimes we have to make a choice about our associations and activities, even though they may be uncomfortable ones. But, one can take leave of certain others without hurting them or causing dissension.......
Hope this helps......I have friends who do all the worldly things, and they all know that I am a bit of a hermit, and that I am "different", but they keep coming around nonetheless, and I am a kind hostess to them, but turn down many of their activities. They just think I am "odd", and "religious"...but I don't care what they say or think.......like I said, they continue to keep coming around, so there must be something they find pleasant about me.............
All the best from your sister in Christ....Arlene
