My dear brother WES,There are many professing Christians who are not truly born again.
While I thank you for stating your view, for the following reasons, I cannot agree.
The Bible does not deal with those who profess but no not profess. That is a concept foreign to the Bible. This is a doctrine that has been made to compensate for those who wish to simplify the process whereby we need to be sanctified - the process whereby we are taken from a carnal state of not professing while possessing, to one where our walk is in conformity to what we possess in spirit.
From end to end, the Bible is full of man's failure. In the garden, after the flood, under law, as well as with Is real, under the priesthood, under Kings, and under prophets. Furthermore, Christians who would allow the Holy Spirit to apply balm to their eyes have also seen, the Age of Grace also ends in failure. That there are many Christians who are living in and like the world does not make them unsaved. It simply makes them carnal, and unspiritual. The Church Age culminates with Babylon the Great. Just because a Christian man is found in bed with someone other than his wife, does not mean he is not a Christian. But it does mean he is an adulterous one.
Look at the TYPE God gave us for the Church - Israel. The WORD mentions numerous times what they were guilty of: IDOLATRY. And as with the type so with the ANTITYPE - the Church - she is full of idolatry. All through the New Testament, there are warnings written - not to the unsaved, or those who say they are Christians but who are not, but - to CHRISTIANS. "Brethren, brothers, sisters, these are how they are addressed.
In saying the Church AGE ends in failure, I might sound like a cynic. Actually I am not. That is merely one side of the coin. There is another side. And just as our great and Almighty God was able to take the failures of Israel and bring in Messiah as an answer to all their shortcomings, He is also more than able to get what He desires out of the Church Age - a Bride, pure and holy; spotless, having been washed - cleansed - of all her filthiness by the WORD. Praise His mighty name.
I encourage you to read through the entire New Testament, and count just how many warnings there are - written to the Church. I find it to be quite humbling myself. The more I count, the more I begin to grasp from God's point of view, just how feeble we are; and how much we need to rely on His grace to make us what He wants us to be - possessors, as well as professors.
I pray this helps to put things in perspective as to how prone we - Christians - are to walk according to the course of this world (possessors but not professors). Unfortunately, the usual response is that these warnings are said to refer the unsaved. Yet, the flaw in this logic is not hard to refute: The Bible was not, and still is not, written to the unsaved!
Blessing to all the Doves as we strive to walk daily in the power of His life.
Yours in His precious name,
Sentinel Kulp
