"re: Rowina re:To Bob Anderson on the wild history of the Church and its utter imperfection"

Hi Rowina,

I'm glad you found this article as interesting as I did. For those who missed it, the link is: http://www.moriel.org/Sermons/Online/Future_History_of_the_Church/future_history_of_the_church_b.html

Parts 1 & 3 are equally interesting. This is the link to the sermon index:http://moriel.org/Sermons/read_a_sermon_english.php

You do ask a difficult question, to wit, how do you find a "correctly scriptural" church. I'm reminded of a pulpit anecdote I've heard a number of times: If you find a perfect church, don't join it. You'll ruin it.

And, you're asking the wrong person. I am not a church goer, at least at this time.

Your question is particularly relevant to the new, infant believer. How do you direct a babe in Christ? Satan wants to devour all such.

My answer has to be any church that preaches God Jesus Christ come in the flesh, conceived by God the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, crucified dead and buried, arisen from the dead in full and final triumph over sin and Satan and all his kingdom, ascended to the right hand of God the Father and coming again. Additionally, any church that preaches salvation by grace THROUGH FAITH, that it is the gift of God and not of ourselves, lest any man should boast. And additionally again, any church that includes an altar call in every service. If the church does not have these, it is no church at all. And additionally again, any church that stands against the "social gospel", particularly in respect to abortion and homosexuality.

99% of churches are cowards in respect to section 501c of the IRS code. This is a link to various histories of the Johnson amendment of 1954 (Thank you, LBJ) http://www.bing.com/search?q=LBJ%20johnson%20amendment

As I mentioned, I am not a church goer at this time. I'll summarize the situation by saying I'm disappointed with the messages I've heard from the pulpits in this area. On the other hand, I'm addicted to some of the sermons I've heard preached on the internet.

I too wonder if I shouldn't just stand in a parking lot and open my mouth under the control of the Holy Spirit. All I can say is that He has not yet moved me to do so, but it is a sort of tickle in my mind.
