Dear Gerlinda, Edwina and Doves,
I read with fascination the post about the four Angels holding back the four winds of the earth and it sparked a recollection of an article I read a few years back about the trade winds of the earth and how they effected ocean temperatures and ocean depth. I tried to find the article I read but could not locate it but the scientist who wrote it theorized that certain trade winds traveling over the oceans constantly push the water levels up in certain areas of the globe. He/She theorized that if those winds subsided that the ocean levels would "even out" world wide and cause certain areas to either experience higher or perhaps lower shoreline sea levels. Of greater significance could be: what would happen if the jet streams that shape our weather ceased to exist? The jet stream in North America allowed this summer's heatwave when it was flowing north of the U.S. in Canada allowing a massive high pressure dome to sit across two thirds of America. If it disappeared in winter it would allow arctic cold air known as Alberta Clipper's to sink down inside the U.S. causing a much colder winter. I would guess that the lack of any winds would cause both hemisphere's to have much harsher winters or summers depending on when this event happens during the calendar year. The lack of any winds on the earth would cause catastrophic weather changes in a short period of time. Just my two cents for what it is worth.YBICJeff
