I can tell you about my marathon experience. This really cool thing happenen to me.
My sister ran in a marathon last month, (she is 46 so this was no small feat for her). Yesterday she sent me this email describing her run..I thought I would share it with you all as we are also running a marathon and we all face big hills and deadlines, it is a metaphor for our lives.I hope you find it encouraging..
"The run has a time limit of 7 hours and the race officials won't let you go on if you don't make it to mile 14 by 4 hours. It was not a big deal for me until I found out that there was a rolling start. This means they corral you with a bunch of other runners that run at the same pace and then the corrals start at 3 min intervals. I crossed the START line at 42 mins into the race.
So I'm running and now I don't know if it's 4 hours from the start of the race or my personal 4 hours (they give you a tracking device that goes on your shoe).
Okay so I'm nearing the end of mile 13, I'm getting a little tired and I'm starting to worry that I'm not going to make the cutoff. (Mind you I had enough time I was just tired and not thinking straight.). It's about this time that I look up and see a big hill that I had to climb. Just as I start to process the hill a girl cuts in front of me about 3 steps ahead of me. She is running at a perfect, even pace and at just the right speed for me!! I fell in behind her and mirrored her steps. It was the most wonderful feeling,
After about a 1/4 mile I had enough energy to look up and read the back of her shirt. It said,
Philippians 4:13. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. …
At that point I knew I would make the cutoff point and that I would finish the race! The second half of the race I just kicked back and enjoyed the run. ;)
Our Lord sets the pace for us, we just need to watch His feet and stay in step.
May God bless you abundantly today and may we dance in heaven tomorrow,
