5727 was a big year for Israel - they took back Jerusalem in the 6-day war. Adding up the numbers is 21 or 3 sevens.

i wonder if 5772 (those numbers also add up to 21), which begins in Fall 2011, will also be a big year for them. Perhaps the temple will be rebuilt in that year?

Btw, 5709 (also adds up to 21) was the year that began in the Fall of 1948, making it the first full year during which Israel was once again a physical nation.
