"Threatening Noahide Laws/Donna Danna"
I was interested in your list of the "seven laws" which the Noahide
group
uphold as applying to gentiles.
Most of these parallel the Ten
Commandments, but one of them sets up a
judicial body.
I'd like to
expand on what that judicial body would be, from what I
have read, although
I don't pose as an expert in this.
The Noahides believe that all gentiles
should eventually be ruled by a
judicial body based on Torah. This would be
an end to the separation
of church and state. It would be as unseparate as
setting up Muslim
Sharia law in a nation such as America in which the
majority still are
at least nominally Christian. It could impose penalties,
even death,
for misbehavior as defined by the judicial body.
As you
say, Donna, it is anti-Christian. It is different from the
situation in
which Christians recognize the moral truth of the Old
Testament's Ten
Commandments. It would be a body set up to ENFORCE
those of the Ten
Commandments which the Noahides say apply to all
people, including all
non-Jews.
Some Christians, those few who are aware of the Noahide
movement, might
jump to the conclusion that this would be a positive
situation for
Christians, bringing the Ten Commandments into secular law.
while it
would bring in some of the commandments, as you listed, it would
also
bring in this judicial body, which could legislate against Christians
if it chose.
This movement is different from Messianic Judaism, which
looks to Jesus
as the Messiah of Jew and gentile alike.
Messianic Jews
expect Jesus to set up a government when he comes to
rule and reign, not a
council of Orthodox Jews to supervise the lives
of gentiles. And as you
say, the Noahides do not "like" Jesus, calling
Him a false prophet, even
suggesting that He is anti-christ.
Very frightening movement. Too far
out to gain traction? Let us hope
so!
