Try reading it this way: "... Cause the sacrifice and oblation to cease, and because of his overspreading of his abominations he shall make it desolate..." Antichrist is going to cause grief wherever he goes and he will place darkness for light and light for darkness and evil will be called good and good will be called evil. Nothing will escape his influence wherever he goes and he will have complete ruin of all that was once good. Until even his supporters begin to realize that they have made the gravest of errors in judgement on a gigantic scale.
