"Review of Book - "2007"
- by Shelby Corbitt"
Someone posted regarding asking people's opinion
on a book brought up on "Five Doves". There have been many books
brought up on "Five Doves", some of which I have purchased and read.
One of these which I read back in January 2007 was "2007", by Shelby Corbitt.
I've proferred my review of "2007" privately to several
posters to "Five Doves" but thought I'd condense it for those that still
haven't read it. Several others have already given up the punch line
which goes something like this. Shelby Corbett has come to the conclusion,
based on direct revelation from God, that the rapture would be during the
Summer of 2007. No ifs, ands, or buts. Which for the record
started on June 21, 18:06 UT and ends September 23, 9:51 UT, give or take
a minute. (The book states the date September 21st for the end of
Summer, so if we are still here September 21st, we still have two more
days to watch during the Summer of 2007.)
Okay, this book is 391 pages long and I bought the book
the end of December 2006, although Shelby will give you the book for free
if you ask. I was told I had the latest edition which is the copyright
2006 edition. It supposedly has been reprinted several times to correct
various mistakes, mainly typographical. Regardless, I found so many
mistakes still remaining, that I started keeping track by writing them
down as I read. Many were simple like "effect" instead of "affect"
(pg. 23) and "except" instead of "accept" (pg. 91). And I suppose
I paid more attention to the book. Make your own list. And
don't just gloss over the quoted scriptures. You should be able to
find something to write down for example in three different scripture references
on page 43. (I suppose it helped that I used to love singing the
scripture set to music that ends, "First John Four, Seven and Eight").
I was going to send all the typo's to Shelby till I was
told that she had already reissued the book several times. And, either
way, Rapture or no Rapture in Summer of 2007, there may not be a reason
for her anyway to republish the book now.
However, should the Lord tarry, one could take the vast
majority of the book and pull it out into another book just on general
Christian doctrine that is not related to the Rapture during the Summer
of 2007. So, to me that is the book's strength and its weakness.
I enjoyed reading the book. But the book did not put forth any intellectually
stimulating case proving, or trying to prove, why we should expect the
Rapture in 2007. We are left with the interpretation of one person's
Divine Revelation, which may be enough for many people.
The book wasn't the eschatological tretise I was expecting.
But, not being so, it probably will appeal to more people. So, the
book was entertaining enough for me to read it all the way through, (although
I started 2/3rds of the way through and then started at the beginning and
read again through to the end).
