In reference to your saying the new French president Sarkovsky is
sometimes called the "Prince of Andorra", and is both Catholic and
Jewish.Well, Andorra is a tiny country between France and Spain. This
approximate area in the middle ages was sometimes called "Septimania"
and was a Jewish monarchy tolerated and even approved by Charlemagne.
The borders of Septimania and Andorra may not be the same but it was in
this general vicinity. The Merovingian kings of France, who are said to have been part Jewish
and part French, did not "die out" on the male line, according to what
I've read, as is usually thought to be the case. A child was taken by
his sister to Septimania and became the ruler of Septimania. He would
thus come from a line which was part Jewish and yet had given
allegiance, however nominal, to the Pope in Rome. I think his name was
Sigisbert. He was the remaining son of Dagobert, the murdered king.
Or so I read. Not to say that Sarkovsky is a descendent of Sigisbert. But if he is
both Jewish and Catholic, he would have a similar religious background.
I had not read that he was Jewish, but someone told me he was. I know
little about him. That is really an interesting thing, the 2l days of mourning and the 21
days that Daniel waited for the arrival of Angel Gabriel, whom only
Archangel Michael helped. My birthday is on the eve of 9 Av. That is, on July 23. So something
bad happens to me that day--I get a year older!Mariel
