"Indict Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmandinjad for Genocide"

I would urge all Doves and friends to join with Professor Dershowitz, as described in the message below,  in this diplomatic/legal approach to opposing the Iranian plans.  It was through these same means that the world was mobilized to reverse the invasion of South Korea in the 1950's.  International diplomacy, coupled with military action, does work, at times.  We must do what we can do.

Subject: Indict Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmandinjad for Genocide

Almost a year ago, I met with Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz. At that time, we discussed the fact that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad should be indicted for genocide. I also met with Irwin Cotler, and we discussed the move afoot to take Ahmadinejad before the Hague for his crimes.
I am asking for one million signers to present to President Bush so that he will back this move to bring Ahmadinejad to justice.

The U.S. House of Representatives recently voted 411-2 to charge the Iranian despot with violating the 1948 Genocide Convention. The charge is that Ahmadinejad engaged in "incitement to commit genocide" when he called for Israel to be "wiped off the map."

This plan to hold Ahmadinejad accountable for his threats was birthed when former Canadian Justice Minister Irwin Cotler and Professor Alan Dershowitz united with Ambassador John Bolton and an Israeli legal team. According to the Jerusalem Post, "Cotler's involvement was critical because, as Canada's attorney-general, he actually prosecuted Rwandan Hutus in Canada under the Genocide Convention for their involvement in broadcasting repeated calls over the radio for the massacres that led to the deaths of over 800,000 Rwandans, chiefly from the Tutsi tribe."

Cotler, still a member of the Canadian Parliament, said that Ahmadinejad's language was "as direct and public, clear and compelling" an incitement to genocide as any he had ever heard. He added that this was even more threatening given Iran's race to acquire nuclear capabilities despite the Western world's opposition.
In April, the Canadian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Human Rights approved a motion by Cotler to refer Ahmadinejad's genocidal incitement to the Security Council, in order that the International Court of Justice investigate and actually prosecute the Iranian president.
