"Richard Spendiff Re: Pepperpot
- daniel and the beast questions"
Hi John and Doves,There appears to be a blind-spot with some folks regarding the interpretation of scripture, when referring to theologians who lived in the 19th and early 20th Centuries.
The timing of these Theologians’ lives in either of these Centuries is pivotal on whether or not they thought prophetic events had happened or not; whether in fact the prophetic scriptures had been fulfilled.
Some of the names which regularly appear on 5 doves are E.W. Bullinger who lived from 1837 to 1913, and Dr. Robert Anderson who lived from 1841 to 1918, and J.N. Darby, the Father of Dispensationalism and founder of the Exclusive Brethren who lived from 1800 to 1882.
We should bear in mind at all times, the age in which our “favourite” old theologian lived, and take into account that there is a “HUGE BLANK” in their understanding of prophecy, i.e. the 20th Century!
Most of them never saw either of the 2 World Wars, nor the cutting off and decline of the Ottoman Empire, so that Israel could be re-established in 1948, nor the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967. They certainly didn’t see the revival of Radical Islam, or foresee the current state of Terrorism in the World today, nor the huge movement of refugees fleeing from one country to another, nor the multitude of wars, both big and little, taking place around the globe today, nor the rise of technology and knowledge and the transformation of the information highway.
Regarding the book of Daniel – Daniel was told it was sealed! It was only sealed until it happened!
When you look carefully at the book of Daniel, you will see that both “little horns” are historic. We need to be aware of the old theologians “BLANK SPOT” when we refer to what they thought about prophecy. If we rely on what they thought in the 19th Century, we will miss what actually has happened in the 20th and what is happening in the 21st.
