Some personal experiences re. 'The Cause and The Cure for Depression'

About 28 years ago, I was one of 7 to survive a commercial plane
crash.  Some months later, as I was starting to make physical
recovery, my mind started to descend into a depressive state where I
remember thinking and telling my wife that it might have been better
for me to have died in that wreck as most others had.

Some months later, as I lay (in a depressed state) on a bed one day,
this new (heaven sent) thought came into my brain.

'If I could do nothing more than to just lay there ...  to talk to God
would be sufficient reason for my living.'

At the time, I didn't question the source or novellness of that
thought. But it led to another thought: I was able to do more than to
just lay in bed. I was able to get up and walk around... so I did.

Much later, I saw that this was also what was said in Revelation 4:11
'thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were
created.'

It is so comforting to simply know that HE IS ... and THAT HE IS ABLE
TO KEEP ... and that I might bring some pleasure to THIS AWESOME ONE!

Baruch HaShem!

Proverbs 29:18  Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he
that keepeth the law, happy is he.

And note also the rich context:

Proverbs 29:
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself
bringeth his mother to shame.
16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the
righteous shall see their fall.
17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give
delight unto thy soul.
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth
the law, happy is he.
19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand
he will not answer.
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of
a fool than of him.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have
him become his son at the length.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in
transgression.
23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the
humble in spirit.

But note what Jesus will do for us:

Matthew 9:36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with
compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad,
as sheep having no shepherd.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive
us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every
one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us
all.

Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD:
though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though
they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

And note also the instructive context:

Isaiah 1:
15  And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from
you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are
full of blood.
16 ¶  Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from
before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
17  Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the
fatherless, plead for the widow.
18  Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your
sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red
like crimson, they shall be as wool.
19  If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
20  But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword:
for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

Now heaven again sends us GOOD NEWS: (i.e. TRUTH to kindle hope in GOD)

John 1:12  But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to
become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name: (And
here He is called the WORD of GOD by whom, and FOR WHOM, everything
was made, ... and that includes YOU!)

Now where does THIS HOPE come from?

Colosians 1:
4  Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which
ye have to all the saints,
5  For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard
before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
6  Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth
forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and
knew the grace of God in truth:

Well ... we have to first hear and understand this truth of the
amazing grace of God.
This then kindles faith which leads to obedience ... and where our new
treasures are being laid up ... then ... that's where our new heart
will be also ... HEAVENWARD.

There IS HOPE. There is nothing to hard for God. God delights in those
who place their HOPE in HIS UNFAILING FAITHFUL MERCY and LOVE.

Psalm 33:18  Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him,
upon them that hope in his mercy;
Psalm 147:11  The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those
that hope in his mercy.

Hebrews 13:5,6  Let your conversation [i.e. your life/living] be
without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for
he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we
may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man
shall do unto me.

I also saw, that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble
so if God was going to save me ... I needed to learn something about
humility, no matter what God had to do to teach me.

Shalom shalom,

David
