Isaiah 19
1The burden of Egypt. Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt: and the idols of Egypt shall be moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt shall melt in the midst of it.
2And I will set the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, and kingdom against kingdom.
3And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst thereof; and I will destroy the counsel thereof: and they shall seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to them that have familiar spirits, and to the wizards.
4And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, the LORD of hosts.
5And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up.
[Aswan Dam? The political ramifications of the Aswan High Dam are also serious. More than 95 percent of Egypt’s population lives along the Nile River. If anything happened to the dam, if it were destroyed, the resulting flood would completely destroy Egypt. It effectively means that any country can blackmail Egypt by threatening to blow up the Aswan Dam if it does not do that country’s bidding! http://www.proutworld.org/features/nile.htm ]
6And they shall turn the rivers far away; and the brooks of defence shall be emptied and dried up: the reeds and flags shall wither.
7The paper reeds by the brooks, by the mouth of the brooks, and every thing sown by the brooks, shall wither, be driven away, and be no more.
8The fishers also shall mourn, and all they that cast angle into the brooks shall lament, and they that spread nets upon the waters shall languish.
9Moreover they that work in fine flax, and they that weave networks, shall be confounded.
10And they shall be broken in the purposes thereof, all that make sluices and ponds for fish.
11Surely the princes of Zoan are fools, the counsel of the wise counsellors of Pharaoh is become brutish: how say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?
12Where are they? where are thy wise men? and let them tell thee now, and let them know what the LORD of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.
13The princes of Zoan are become fools, the princes of Noph are deceived; they have also seduced Egypt, even they that are the stay of the tribes thereof.
14The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof: and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit.
15Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, branch or rush, may do.
16In that day shall Egypt be like unto women: and it shall be afraid and fear because of the shaking of the hand of the LORD of hosts, which he shaketh over it.
17And the land of Judah shall be a terror unto Egypt, every one that maketh mention thereof shall be afraid in himself, because of the counsel of the LORD of hosts, which he hath determined against it.
18In that day shall five cities in the land of Egypt speak the language of Canaan, and swear to the LORD of hosts; one shall be called, The city of destruction.
19In that day shall there be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to the LORD.
20And it shall be for a sign and for a witness unto the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt: for they shall cry unto the LORD because of the oppressors, and he shall send them a saviour, and a great one, and he shall deliver them.
21And the LORD shall be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians shall know the LORD in that day, and shall do sacrifice and oblation; yea, they shall vow a vow unto the LORD, and perform it.
22And the LORD shall smite Egypt: he shall smite and heal it: and they shall return even to the LORD, and he shall be intreated of them, and shall heal them.
23In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians.
24In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land:
25Whom the LORD of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance.
Egypt, Jordan condemn Israeli attacks on LebanonSource: ReutersCAIRO, July 14 (Reuters) - Egypt and Jordan condemned Israeli attacks on Lebanon and the Palestinian territories on Friday and called on all sides to show self-restraint. A joint statement issued after a meeting between Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and King Abdullah of Jordan also said that attacks on Lebanese and Palestinian utilities and infrastructure were against international law. King Abdullah visited Egypt for the day to consult Mubarak on the Middle East violence which escalated when the Lebanese guerrilla group Hizbollah captured two Israeli soldiers on the Israeli-Lebanese border on Wednesday. The statement said: "The two leaders condemned the widescale military operations by Israeli forces in Lebanon and the Palestinian territories and called for an immediate end to attacks on civilians and the targeting of vital Lebanese and Palestinian installations, utilities and infrastructure." "This is in violation of the rules of international legitimacy and the principles of international humanitarian law," the statement added. The violence puts Murabak and King Abdullah in an uncomfortable position at home because of widespread sympathy for the Palestinian and Lebanese groups Hamas and Hizbollah, which between them are holding three Israeli soldiers to press their demands for Arab prisoners held by Israel. Egypt and Jordan are the only Arab countries with peace treaties with Israel and Israeli embassies in their capitals. Mubarak and Abdullah called in the statement for international efforts to contain the conflict, prevent escalation and restore calm in the region. They did not talk to reporters and officials called off plans for their foreign ministers to hold a news conference. U.S. President George W. Bush spoke to Mubarak and King Abdullah separately earlier on Friday, a senior Bush administration said. He gave no details of the calls. Earlier in the conflict Egypt tried but failed to mediate an agreement between Hamas and Israel on a reciprocal release of prisoners. Hamas insisted the releases be simultaneous but Israel refused, Hamas said.Militants blow hole in Gaza-Egypt border gate
Israel pulls some troops from central Gaza
Friday, July 14, 2006; Posted: 2:18 p.m. EDT (18:18 GMT)GAZA CITY (CNN) -- Armed with rocket-propelled grenades, Hamas militants blew open a gate Friday on the border between Gaza and Egypt, allowing hundreds of people to cross into Gaza.Militants wounded an Egyptian officer in the raid on the Rafah crossing, The Associated Press reported.
People streamed through the open gate, and the atmosphere grew tense as Israeli attack helicopters hovered over the area.
At the time, some 500 people were inside a lounge in a terminal on the Egyptian side of the border, according to witnesses and security sources.
The people were awaiting deportation back to Gaza because they lacked the proper paperwork.
The crossing has been closed since June 25, when three groups of Palestinian militants, including Hamas' military wing, captured an Israeli soldier.
Israel sent forces into Gaza and clamped down on residents' movements after the capture of Israeli Cpl. Gilad Shalit, 19, and the killing of two of his colleagues.
Hamas and other militants have demanded a swap for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, but Israel has refused.
In other developments, the Israel Defense Forces said it withdrew some troops from central Gaza on Friday after they completed "their activities in the area" but said forces remained in southern Gaza.
Israel also says it wants to stop Palestinian militants from firing rockets from Gaza into Israeli towns and villages.
Four Israelis were treated for shock after militants' Qassam rockets struck the border town of Sderot on Friday, the IDF said.
The Israeli army said it hit more than 30 armed militants overnight in land and sea attacks, targeting seven groups that the military asserted were plotting against Israeli troops. The fate of the militants was not immediately known.
Military action on Thursday included a missile strike aimed at the Palestinian Foreign Ministry headquarters in Gaza City.
Witnesses and Palestinian security sources said 10 people were wounded and the building's fourth and fifth floors were hit.
