I want to add my agreement to Jovial's 28 July 05 essay: "The 360 day year error." This essay is very timely for us to consider now. I have been dismayed to see how many Bible researchers have continued to say that the Biblical, Jewish calendar year was a 360-day cycle. That simply is not true. The word 'month' comes from 'moon,' in both English and hebrew. And if it comes from 'moon,' it means that 'months' follow the moon exactly. To my knowledge there is no single case in the Bible where months are non-lunar. In both Old and New Testament references all 'months' are lunar months. The 360 day time unit is from the priestly Babylonian numerology system, but even the Babylonians knew that it was not a true year. It's an artificial concept that does not fit this world.
There is Biblical indication that months were 30 days in pre-Flood times but that still does not mean that years were 360 days. In our world now the solar year has approximately 12.37 lunar months and IT MAY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY. In that case, the pre-Flood year may have been about 371.25 days (instead of the present 365.25). There is Bible evidence that months were once 30 days, but THERE IS NO EVIDENCE that years ever were 360 days.
For those that can accept it, Jovial's essay is a true blessing to all who are calculating prophetic times and seasons. Be blessed.
