I too have read these accounts as if the first century believers did know something we apparently don't know today.

I have studied and diagrammed the events of the Seals in Revelation and I would like to point out that at Seal 6 the people SAY and THINK the Wrath of th Lamb, and the Great Day of Their Wrath are come.  However, when the "dust" settles, it is still another 42 months in Seal 7, Trumpet 7 before the 7 bowls of YHVH's Wrath are poured out.

It is at Seal 6 that the Throne Room with a uncountable multitude is described, among which I believe the Raptured ones are.  Another account of another multitude (Rev. 15:5-7) comes right after the harvest of the earth (Rev. 14:14-20).  These are the ones who lived/died during the 42 months of the sea beast.

I would also again challenge those who read Revelation to find the Great Tribulation mentioned after Seal 6.  Because of that perhaps one could call events in Seal 7 as relating to "wrath" but not to "tribulation".
