This is report # 5 from the Democratic National Convention by God's agent 007.

Jim,

Today (Wednesday) I had some time to spend watching nationally syndicated radio talk-show host Sean Hannity do his radio program. One point that he made is that there have been a lot of conservatives come by and identify themselves. I have experienced this as well. Every Boston police officer that I have struck up a conversation with tells me that they do not agree with the things that the Democratic party stands for and many of them were standing in line to get their picture taken with Sean during breaks.

Because I have been observing Al Jazeera closely, I have seen the under-current attitude being expressed in interviews from those in positions of authority and stature in the Democratic party. That attitude has been very pro Arab as well as a thinly hidden anti-Israeli slant. They are very careful not to go too far on the anti-Israel rhetoric in order not to offend Jewish voters. If this is what the Kerry-Edwards ticket will be, we can expect more of the same thing that we experienced in the Clinton administration and certainly an even higher degree of pressure on the nation of Israel.

Tonight the DNC attempted to bolster John Kerry's commander-in-chief strengths. They had some videos and paraded a number of Lt. (3-Star) Generals across the platform all showing support for Kerry-Edwards. As an observer of the U.S. military command structure for a number of years, one thing that I have seen is that a lot (but not all) of military generals by the time they get their third star tend to lean toward being politicians rather than soldiers. Perhaps this is because at that rank they have to interface with civilian political leaders to a higher degree than lower ranks. The finale to this part of tonight's program was a speech by the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General (4-Star) John Shalikashvili. The general referred to himself as "an old soldier but a new Democrat". The general was appointed to the highest military position in our nation by former president Clinton, so it is easy to understand where his loyalties lie. By tonight's program, you would think that the military is strongly behind the Kerry-Edwards ticket. I have contacts in the military and by far the prevailing opinion of the ranks from the lowest enlisted grade all the way up through the the ranks until you get to general officers remain firmly behind the re-election of President Bush.

On a side note, one thing that I witnessed tonight while General Shalikashvili spoke was the loud roar of conversation from the delegates and I have seen this several times this week with other speakers. At times the conversations from the thousands that filled the Fleet Center threatened to drown out the speaker. Although the general was certainly not a captivating speaker by any means, I thought it showed a definite lack of interest by the delegates and a high degree of rudeness.

But the most rousing speech to the DNC tonight was by Al Sharpton. While the well-delivered John Edwards speech was mostly taken from previous primary addresses, Al Sharpton's speech was cheered many times as he slammed President Bush and received the longest standing ovation by this quote: "The issue of government is not to determine who may sleep together in the bedroom, it's to help those that might not be eating in the kitchen."

What Al should know is that sin begats poverty, hunger and just about every thing that menaces today's civilization. You can throw all the money that you want at a problem, but if you leave the root in place, the problem will never be resolved. It will just be fertilized by the money thrown at it.
