This is report # 4 from the Democratic National Convention by God's agent 007.

Jim,
The first day of the convention was interesting. While the attention was drawn to former presidents Carter and Clinton's speeches last night (Monday), you can find out more information by just walking and talking to people.
I had some time so I decided to walk out onto the floor while former president Carter was speaking. The behind the scenes feeling here is that while Kerry isn't their favorite person to run for president, the momentum is behind him and he is the only one that has a chance to beat President Bush in November. That seems to be the feeling here, whatever it takes, Bush must be removed.
The floor of the convention is very, very crowded. Having been involved in many Christian conventions and meetings, I know that we could have never had a crowded floor like that. The fire department would have shut us down. Boston is supposedly very strict about such things, but it certainly wasn't being enforced. When I had enough of walking around on the floor of the convention I headed back to our network control center. On the way back I met and older couple that were obviously delegates. They saw my badge and asked me how to get to a certain place. The elevators were clogged and sometimes you can wait for 15 minutes for one. So, I told them if they didn't mind walking down one level on the stairs, I could help them. I escorted them down and pointed them in the right direction. The lady looked at me as we parted and touched my shoulder and told said, "you have been more kind to us than anyone we have met here so, far." That was nice.
Being a Christian and also a conservative, I am concerned a bit about some of the Christians that are supporting this Democratic ticket. I know there is an argument on some of the Christian forums that many of us visit about whether to support President Bush or not, with some saying they will vote a third party and others saying that they won't vote at all. While I could comment about that itself, I want to turn to the question of why a Christian would support the democratic presidential ticket. This was brought to my mind yesterday as I watched Patti LaBelle rehearse for the finale that would be just after former president Clinton would speak. At the end of her rehearsal she raised her hand and said, "Thank you Jesus, we need a change, oh Holy Spirit you are going to replace Bush". Again, it seems to lean toward replacing the president at any cost. I don't think Patti was being rhetorical in her comment, she seemed very sincere. But how could a sincere Christian support a democratic ticket that has on their platform the infanticide of abortion. That alone should be the "show stopper" for a Christian supporting a democratic ticket, and there are a dozen or more other Democratic platform issues that a Christian should have serious problems with . I'll admit it baffles me.
On a different note, there is a controversy centered around Al Jazeera and the Democratic National Committee. When Al Jazeera was setting up their skybox this weekend, they did just like NBC, CBS, FOX, and ABC by putting a sign up in front of their skybox. Well, overnight last Thursday their sign disappeared. The word was that the Democratic National Committee had it removed because they didn't want to potentially offend any of their more conservative base by having the Arab network sign in the convention hall. I was reminded that the Democrats are supposedly the "party of tolerance". I guess the exception to that is when it comes to eroding their support.
While that happened, those with the more liberal tilt were clamoring to be interviewed by Al Jazeera. These included Michael Moore (Fahrenheit 911) and Richard Dreyfuss with others on the way.
Well, tonight (Tuesday) in prime time, we have Teresa Heinz Kerry, Wife of John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, U.S. Senator from Massachusetts speaking to the convention. This is an odd pairing that was put in place before and old story re-surfaced about a quote that Mrs. Kerry made back in 1975 about Senator Kennedy (pardon the language, but remember where I am):
"I know some couples who stay together only for politics,'' Heinz Kerry said at the time. "If Ted Kennedy holds on to that marriage (to ex-wife Joan) just for the Catholic vote, as some people say he does, then I think he's a perfect bastard.''
With that comment, I'll sign off for now.
