Qassam hits kibbutz in Negev

A Qassam rocket fired from around Beit Hanun in the northern Gaza Strip caused no casualties when it struck a kibbutz close to 6 A.M., landing on a bed where a mother and her nine-year-old son were sleeping. A month-old infant was asleep nearby. "It hit the wall, entered the bedroom, hit the closet, and landed on the bed," said kibbutz secretary Oren Barnea. "The rocket landed between them without hurting anyone. It was a miracle." The father, Motti Assif, said: "I was sleeping upstairs when I suddenly heard an explosion. I ran downstairs, there was a strong smell of smoke and the whole room was full of dust... I took the kids and ran outside." The family has three other children who were sleeping in other rooms. The mother and son suffered slight burns from touching the rocket. A short while later, neighbors said the family was calm and joking about the incident. The outside wall and room where the Qassam landed were badly damaged. "It's hard to describe this as anything but a miracle," said chief of Sderot police station, Yaki Artzi. "The rocket apparently exploded outside the house when it hit the wall, so the fragments didn't hit the family."
