"floating in ariveroftongues"
I attended a Russian church recently and enjoyed
praying with them. Frequently the congregation gets on their knees and
prays. After a song or a short sermon young and old kneel down and pray.
Though they speak Russian, when they pray many tongues are heard. They
do not hold back, just like they sing, with all their heart in beautiful
harmonies, the deep voices of the men and the higher notes of the women
blending in. Prayer rolls on like a river. I walk into the prayer like
entering a river and soon let go, just listening. I am taken along a beautiful
journey. The voices swirl with many tones, soft and sweet, deep and thundering,
high and staccato. Crescendo upon crescendo as I get swept into deep and
swifter waters, far out to sea as I close my eyes. Then just as suddenly
the waters quieten and slowly lap against the bank and I find myself back
on shore. Praise God for his beautiful gift that we can enjoy a bit of
heaven while on earth.
God bless
