The insidious nature of American military reductions
Many Americans are alarmed by the bold move of the man who
occupies the Oval Office to downsize the American military. News
reports are calling this the most significant shift in military
strategy since World War II. In short, the US will reduce its
presence in Europe, turn its focus toward the Asian Pacific and
China, rely more heavily on technology, and reduce the troop
strength. This administration has decided to give the impression
that budget cuts will come in military programs rather than
social programs. The announcement at the Pentagon has sent
ripples around the world, especially among allies who have grown
dependent on a US military presence.
One one hand, it is good to reduce the size of our military and
cut spending by eight percent over a ten year period. The US has
become too military heavy, too much of a nation-building super
power, too eager to overlay "democracy" onto systems that are
totally incompatible with the responsibilities of representative
government. By legitimizing an antichrist system through
democracy, America has been the catalyst of nurturing evil and
assisting it to grow into a formidable oppressor of religious
freedom, free speech and human rights. For all the hard earned
taxpayer money America's leaders have sown for a crop of peace,
the harvest has been one of hatred, war, economic hardship and
global instability.
On the other hand, it is conspicuous that this particular
president and administration is targeting the military at this
point in our nation's history. Given his promise to "remake"
America, he has been true to his word. This administration has
apologized for America's greatness; has refused to enforce its
laws on border security, marriage, energy policy and more; has
put taxpayers into historic debt; has advanced the cause of
homosexuality; has overseen high unemployment and home
foreclosures; has supported terrorists as a foreign policy
partners; has appointed questionable Muslims to high places in
the administration and the courts; and much more. It looks as
though this president is trying to destroy America.
George Washington, in his 1796 Farewell Address, advised America
about foreign policy: "Observe good faith and justice towards
all nations; cultivate peace and harmony with all. Religion and
morality enjoin this conduct...to give to mankind the
magnanimous and too novel example of a people always guided by
an exalted justice and benevolence." Washington believed that
foreign policy based on religion and morality is worthy of a
great nation. America is drifted far from this precept as our
leaders have deceived us and led us astray. Proverbs 29:2 says,
"When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but
when the wicked bear rule, the people mourn." The time ahead
will be laced with hardship. Let us discern well and act wisely.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
