Some years ago I picked up the best description of salt I've ever heard (from Marilyn Agee). Specifically, salt is what restrains the growth of yeast in baking!

Can you imagine what this world will become when the restraint (church) is removed? It may not seem so, given the slide of the world into utter chaos, but the Holy Spirit within us is what is saving the world from itself.
