When asked this riddle, 80% of kindergarten students got the answer right, compared to 17% of Stanford University college students:

 

What is greater than God, More evil than the devil, The poor have it, The rich need it, And if you eat it, you'll die?

 

I had a yard sale last year and posted the riddle (with the accompanying introduction as above) offering 50% off all purchases to anyone that gets the answer right. No one could answer it, except for one woman that I helped a little by giving her a clue. All that I said to her is that the answer must be really simple if the young uns' got it so easily.
