Eddie,
Let's see what scripture says:
1 Cor 6:9-11
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers no male prostitutes nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the Kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
1 Cor 15:33 Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character" Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God - I say this to your shame.
2 Cor 6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers, for what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?
2 Cor 7:1 Since we have these promises dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
2 Cor 13: 5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you --- unless of course, you fail the test.
Galatians 5:16 So I say live by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law. The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rate, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like. I warn you, as I did before that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Galatians 6:1 Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other's burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
Galatians 6: 7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit from that Spirit will reap eternal life.
Ephesians 3:18 For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach and their glory is in their shame, Their mind is on earthly things.
Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars -- their place will be in in the fiery lake of burning sulfur, this is the second death.
Rev 21:27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
God loves us where we are, but to much to leave us there. He also knows are hearts and will help us overcome. Once you are saved, God begins changing you so the sin in your life doesn't work, it makes you uncomfortable, you start hating it. Brothers and Sisters in Christ are to encourage and help you be an overcomer. There is a big difference in trying to overcome sin and defiantly and arrogantly remaining in it.
You have a good point here too, it is not just homosexuality that is a sin, it is all sexual immorality, slander, rage, drunkenness (see the scriptures). The Church has fallen away from calling people to live Holy Lives in Christ once they are saved. It isn't instantaneous, but you are in process. Salvation is just the starting point, then comes sanctification, where God helps you overcome the sin in your life and gives you victory over it.
But if you are happy to remain in sin and don't care what God has said on the subject, you must ask yourself - am I really saved or did I just go through the motions -if there is no fruit in your life and no sowing of good seed, you must question your salvation - test yourself as the Lord says to see if you are in the faith. And sometimes even though you may be saved, if you continue in persistent sin, your life will be shortened.
Jesus said (Matt 7:23) Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles? Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you, Away from me you evildoers!
Repentance means turning away from what you were doing. So if you don't turn away have you really repented? Jesus said (Matt 7:13) Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it. ... Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit....Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus by their fruit you will recognize them...
I am very fearful that American Christianity has made grace cheap and given the idea to people they can say a few magic words and continue in their wicked deeds and expect to get to heaven and many people who think they are going to heaven are going to be shocked to find out they have been misled.
