You ask can gay Christians be saved by faith in Jesus, even though they
may repeatedly fall into their sin of homosexuality, just as others
repeatedly fall into other sexual sin, or lying, slandering, violence,
stealing, and so forth. You ask, can we not welcome into the church a
gay couple who is still sinning but proclaims faith in Christ. My answer to this is that it's one of the biggest problems in the
church today, because the answer--at least to me--is cloaked in
obscurity, behind the veil where God's will sometimes is not seen.My husband and I belonged to an Episcopal church in Seattle, which had
a gay pastor in a long-term relationship, and a few other gay couples.
It was not a majority gay church, and we didn't start going there
because of its gay policy, which they didn't "brag" about or advertise.
No "coming out" was done from the pulpit. I didn't even know Father
Ralph was homosexual when we started going there, although I'd known
him some at the Episcopal Cathedral.I talked to Father Ralph frankly about it. I said, my chief problem
with gays is when they claim that their relationship is normal. It is
not normal. It is a sickness. But we cannot deny that the person has
this sickness, and is often, although not always, born with it. Ii
said that homosexuals should admit they are sick, and if God does not
immediately heal them, they should just accept that they are sick and
doing their best. I told Father Ralph that I was also sick with an
inherited disease which affected mind as well as body, and I could not
by any means get rid of it, but could only cope with it. I told him he
was coping the best he could.Possibly there are other ways to contain homosexuality. Neutering? I
doubt if that would work, since the person's mind and emotions are
involved in this problem, not merely his physique. Brainwashing?
MIght work, I'm not sure.Father Ralph and his partner took care of his aged mother, and his
beloved scottie dogs. I believe they did the best they could. He is
now retired, and possibly has given up the physical part of his
partnership, due to age and infirmity.Father Ralph was a sincere believer in the Creed of the church, and in
fact when I had a big dustup with some of the "board" because they were
promoting Lenten study of an apostate priest's book, Father Ralph took
my side. He believed we should not promote theologians who deny the
Creed of the church. Thus he was not into the "liberal" wing of the
church on those grounds.I have to admit I do not know why God does not heal homosexuals who
sincerely ask to be healed. We will have to keep asking Him. He may
decline to reveal why he does not heal them. Just as Benny HInn stated
that he does not know why some people are not healed of other
sicknesses, I do not know why God does not heal all homosexuals who
repeatedly and sincerely ask for it.So I have to live with this unsolved mystery, one of many in our
universe.I have to assume that Father Ralph and his partner are as saved as I am.
I no longer attend church, not living in a place where a good church is
nearby or convenient, so it's no longer a "working problem" in my life.
If I ever get back to my beloved lost home town, I will probably hope
to see Fr. Ralph once more, and hope to see him in Heaven.
