"Kelly Herman, Re: The One Who Restrains Identified (22 Jan 2008)"

This past week I read your letter on the “restrainer” with great interest.  I believe I gained much knowledge from your letter and comments from the readers.  Thank you for bringing that subject to the surface.

My inquisitive mind though, lies with the mention of cardinal archangels.  I was raised Catholic and served mass on a regular basis through my 1st year of college.  I knew when to stand, when to sit and when to kneel BUT I knew absolutely nothing about the bible.  Thank God and Praise Jesus my wife & I and children were “born again” some years later.  Sorry, I got sidetracked for a moment.

Growing up, I was taught that there were 3 archangels (Michael – the warrior/protector, Gabriel – the messenger and Lucifer – the musician).  After reading your letter, I searched through bible concordances for Raphael and Uriel.  Raphael I didn’t find and as far as the name Uriel, it is mentioned in 1st & 2nd Chronicles as part of a lineage – nothing angelic.

As to the word cardinal, I have not found it in the KJV bible.  It may be in some other version/translation.  Regarding the number of archangels, I believe that there is more than just Michael.  Webster’s dictionary defines archangel as a chief angel or an angel with high rank.  In Daniel 10:13, it states “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, ONE OF THE CHIEF PRINCES, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia”.  This reads like there is more than one archangel – maybe Michael, Gabriel and Lucifer.  Just a thought.

Be Blessed,
