I have heard people in public discuss this, and it's scary how they think it is such a good idea!  The public (your friends, neighbors and relatives) need to be made aware of this instrument of tyranny. The first installment coming to your state by May 11, 2008 in the form of mandatory biometric (National ID) Driver's License!!!
 
BTW, As of Jan 1, 2008, U.S. citizens are now required to show a biometric passport to enter or return to US from even Canada or Mexico. Happy New Year!
