They did not teach you this in school. It is a surprising fact of US history and a very strong example of reverse morals.  Enjoy reading.

President Millard Fillmore was born 108 years ago on January 7 on a frontier farm - very hard work from sunup to sundown - poor life.  He became an indentured apprentice (legally contracted, short term slave) at fifteen years old.

The Bible was the only book the Fillmore family owned.  Millard could not read it very well.  At nineteen years he bought a dictionary for himself, became a good reader, and learned our language thoroughly.  He studied law and became an attorney.  He was elected to state and national offices and became US President when he was fifty years old.

There were no books in the White House then.  His wife, Abigail (former teacher), received $250 from Congress (much money then) and began the White House library.  That was a wise thing to do.

President Fillmore supported total, lifetime slavery even though he had experienced temporary slavery.  This was not wise.  He signed the Fugitive Slave Law.  Slavery everywhere in the world all the way back through history is about more money.  Money controls most politics.

President Fillmore obviously did not learn much from The Bible in his parent's home or The Bible Abigail bought for the White House.  The original plan of Father God YHWH did not include slavery.  Humans added that greedy idea to life later.

US citizens defeated President Fillmore's re-election.  He obeyed US laws well, but he did not obey the huge moral issue of freedom.  He should have used as much time learning The Bible as the law books.  Human laws DO NOT come first.  The ways of Father God YAHWEH are most important.

BIBLE VERSES (Amplified unless noted):
Matthew 23:10  "And you must not be called masters (leaders), for you have one Master (Leader), the Christ."
