"More on academic subversion"
Dear friends:
The other day I forwarded a message titled "Israel a 'Nazi apartheid regime'?" which described academic subversion in Israel and America. (See http://insights.injesus.com .)
To my pleasant surprise, I received a response from a distinguished scholar on my mailing list who affirmed what I said. He is George A. Rekers, M.B.A., Ph.D., Th.D., Distinguished Professor Emeritus, University of South Carolina, and Adjunct Professor and Academic Consultant, Trinity International University.
Dr. Rekers was Distinguished Professor of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Science Emeritus at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, South Carolina. He was previously a Research Fellow in Psychology and Social Relations and a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University.
You will be interested in what he says, below.

Dear Jim,
I have first-hand experience observing subversive forces in the University of Haifa in Israel where I gave an invited lecture on my research several years ago. Before the lecture, the chairwoman of the department of psychology invited me to come have tea in her office with some other academics there. Initially, we had a pleasant conversation as she brought up the fact that she, too, like me earned her Ph.D. degree at U.C.L.A. and as we discussed similarities of the climate in southern California with that of Haifa. I made what I thought was a supportive comment about Israel's right to all their land, based on God giving it to the people. Then I was shocked at the negative tone that the conversation took when the department chairwoman ranted about how she felt "guilty" that Israel was keeping any hold on the land claimed by the Palestinians. She strongly advocated the failed idea of "land for peace."
In retrospect, after teaching along side so many left-wing socialist professors in public universities in the USA for over three decades, I should not have been surprised. But somehow, I had hoped that university professors in Israel might be different, given their unique history and Biblical roots. But I was sadly mistaken. Thank you for sending the link to this article that shows that my experience was not unique at the University of Haifa.
By the way, I had the privilege to give over 200 lectures in universities in Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East through invitations arranged by Campus Crusade staff who were inviting Christian university professors to speak as a way to start or build their campus student and faculty ministries internationally. I would lecture on a psychological topic and then transition to ethical issues (the universal problem of sin) and from there present the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I was invited to lecture to the Soviet Academy of Sciences and Soviet universities before, during, and after the fall of Communism (when the Academy and universities were no longer "Soviet"). I mentioned the devastation of atheistic Marxism on society and the universities to an outspoken socialist professor back home at the University of South Carolina, and emphasized the failure of the brutal Soviet socialistic experiment to him. His die-hard reply to me was brief, "At least that approach to socialism failed." In my experience in witnessing, I have found university professors in the humanities and social sciences to be among the most resistant to the truth of the Gospel, and among those in society who are the most virulent in their opposition to Jesus Christ.
Grace and Peace through our Lord Jesus Christ,
George

He added later:
Many outside of academia do not realize how hostile the secular university environment is for those of us who are devout Christians. The secular university campuses in the USA and across the globe are certainly needy mission fields! Most professors and administrators at secular universities insist on enforcing the values of "tolerance" and "diversity" towards everyone on campus (such as practicing homosexuals, atheists, and left-wing radical activists), but it is widely (but hypocritically) considered "fair game" by those same professors and university administrators to dish out hostile criticism and ostracism towards Bible-believing Christians who are frequently the brunt of unjust discrimination and outright intolerance on campus.
