"Appointed times"

   For those who think that the Lord delayed His coming in 2007, may I suggest that His coming has been established from the foundation of the world, and just as His first coming was at an appointed time, so will be His next appearing. Many are disappointed that 2007 is gone, and we are still here, and many are making excuses as to why this prophecy or that one was misunderstood. Some want to go by another calendar and extend the year so that the false prophecies will turn out to be true after all, should Jesus decide to make an appearance.
    God does not  make mistakes. People do, and God works through humans who are fallible. I believe that when the God of the Universe chooses to deliver a message of great importance that He will make sure that the fallible human to whom He delivers His message will understand it correctly and deliver it properly. We are told to test the spirits and test the prophecies. If they are not true, then they did not come from God. There is no instruction in God's Word about making sure the prophet understood and delivered the message correctly. Nor is there provision for making excuses about a prophecy that seemingly was of God but did not come to pass as prophesied.
    Some will cry, "But what about Jonah and Ninevah?" Yes, God chose to DELAY judgement upon Ninevah, and it was part of His plan from the beginning to test not only the people of Ninevah, but also to test His servant Jonah. Jonah did not pass the test, but God had a reason for that as well. Judgement upon Ninevah was not a matter of such importance that it affected the entire world and as such, His testing of those involved in the prophecy did not mean that God made a mistake.
    Sometimes it appears that God changes His mind. There are many verses that one can search out and study to see that prayer does change things, but to say that God made a mistake or that God changed His mind is not entirely correct. Prayer for healing or salvation, or for certain needs to be met and then that prayer being answered positively is not the same thing as a true prophecy of God being given to His servant, a true prophet, and then delivered to the people.
   Sometimes a prophecy is given but then it is not fulfillfed until many years or even centuries later, as in the example of Jesus first advent and His death and resurrection. Sometimes a prophecy was attached to specific dates or years as in the case of Daniel, and then it was fulfilled exactly to the very day. The wise men knew exactly when to travel to Bethlehem, just as the prophet Jeremiah knew exactly when the days of the captivity would take place. Those are some examples of precise date setting as given by God's true prophets.
   I do not think that the Sovereign God of Creation will allow His name to be profaned by His giving false dates and false prophecies as He does NOT lie.  He will, however, allow even His people to be deceived by false prophets and lying spirits. He will answer them according to the idols of their hearts.
    Ezekiel 14 had much to say about the subject, and if one is not happy that I am pointing this out, please take it up with the Lord. He said it, not me.

 1Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

 2And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

 3Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

 4Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

 5That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

 6Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

 7For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself:

 8And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

 9And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

    May I suggest that we examine our own hearts and ask the Lord to tear down any idols we have set up there. May we search for the truth and ask the Lord to give us discernment so that we CAN discern between the true prophecies and the false, between the false prophets and the true men and women of God. And may we look to Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, not to some date that we hope He will come on and get us out of this mess. May our focus be upon Him, and learning through our wilderness experiences to be made into His image. May we be willing to be put into the refining fire in order that the impurities be burned away, as it is only then that the Master Refiner can see His image reflected in us. May we not put stumblingblocks before our weaker brothers and cause them to turn away in disappointment and defeat. May we lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. If God Almighty has set the year 2008 as the appointed time for His appearing, may we be found ready.
