Word Study

All Scripture is from the KJV 1611

“Preaching another Jesus”

In this study I’ll will specifically not go into the Hebrew and Greek meanings of the words, for the sake of the ‘simplicity that is in Christ’ according to 2 Corinthians 11:3, but use conventional methods such as Dictionaries and Commentaries.

2 Corinthians 11:4

"For if he that cometh preached another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye received another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."

(Emphasis mine)

Now first we should read the Scripture in context otherwise one arrives at a twisted conclusion.

So let’s read verse 2 and 3;

2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

(Emphasis mine)

Specifically the writer of the letter to the Church in Corinth makes it very clear that we are being presented to Christ as a chaste virgin. So looking at the term called 'chaste' the following Webster's meaning is produced;

CHASTE:

1. Pure from all unlawful commerce of sexes. Applied to persons before marriage, it signifies pure from all sexual commerce, undefiled; applied to married persons, true to the marriage bed.

2. Free from obscenity.

Now in verse three it is directly link to the defilement, impurity and defiles the marriage bed. In this verse the word 'beguiled' is used and the Webster's described the word as follows;

BEGUI'LED, pp. deluded; imposed on; misled by craft; eluded by stratagem; passed pleasingly.

DELUDED pp. Deceived; misled; led into error.

MISLED', pp. of mislead. Let into error; led a wrong way.

From my observation it is clear that the same principal is used as to the act that was committed in the Garden of Eden with Eve. Now this study is not the issue of what has transpired in the Garden of Eden, but rather the analogy that the writer to the Church in Corinth refers to the same principle that transpired there.

This time though it is directly referring to our MINDS and not the physical side of the age-old trick, if I may call that.

It is mentioned that satan used his subtilty to deceive Eve, and the word 'subtilty' is defined in the Webster's as;

SUB'TILTY, n. [L. subtilitas.]

1. Thinness; fineness; exility; in a physical sense; as the subtilty of air or light; the subtilty of sounds.

2. Refinement; extreme acuteness. Intelligible discourses are spoiled by too much subtilty in nice divisions.

3. Slyness in design; cunning; artifice; usually but less properly written subtlety.

So now we know that the enemy will this time target our MINDS and therefore controlling the whole body, due to the fact that the mind forms part of the 'soul' which also includes the will and emotions and the mind.

So now that we have lain down the background for the study, lets move on to the scripture at hand.

There are three words that are connected to 'another' and they are "another Jesus, another spirit, and another gospel". Notice there are three (3) points listed in this Scripture that we will analyze today.

According to “Answers.com” the following definitions has been given to indicate the use of the term ‘another’ in the said Scripture.

An.oth.er

Adjutant

  1. One more; an additional: had another cup of coffee.
  2. Distinctly different from the first: took another route to town.
  3. Some other: put it off to other day.

Pronoun

  1. An additional one: one encore followed by another.
  2. A different one: This shirt is too big; I’ll try another.

From this evidence it is clearly pointed out that the Scripture does indeed referring to ‘someone else which is distinctly different from the first one’.

I want to draw your attention to what the writer to the Church in Corinth said regarding this scripture and the key here is the ' simplicity that is in Christ.' I believe when we study Scripture we must keep this in mind and that the LORD God has written His Word so that even a child can understand it, otherwise why did he said that we must become like children? So let’s become like children and believe the written Word and let the Holy Spirit reveal the Spoken Word into our spirit and let the Seed fall on fertile ground so that it would grow into maturity, and explode in your spirit by divine revelation!

So again, let’s look at the Scripture in question;

For if he that cometh preached another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye received another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.”

I want to draw your attention to the first part that is of importance to this study, and that is “For if he that cometh preached another Jesus”. This tells me that this person must be in the Church and as expounded by John Gill the following is mentioned by him and I quote;

“Meaning either some particular man, the apostle might have had some information of, who came from Judea to Corinth, under the character of a true apostle; or anyone of the false apostles whatever, who came of their own accord, and was never sent by Christ, or by any of his churches.

That is, if he proposes and recommends in his ministry, a better Saviour and Redeemer than had been preached by the apostles; one that was better qualified, and more fit for the purposes of salvation; one that they could more safely venture their souls upon, and believe in, as the alone able and all sufficient Saviour, a thing impossible to be: or the sense is, if this other apostle taught the doctrine of salvation by Christ, in another and better method and in a clearer manner, more to the honour of the Redeemer, the glory of God, and the good of their souls, they would have some reason then to pay a greater regard to him.”

A couple of points;

  1. Interesting to note that he mentioned ‘preaching another Jesus’, not another saviour or another redeemer but very specifically another Jesus!

  1. So if one concluded that if the Word stated another saviour one could easily accept any of the so-called pagan gods onto which whose followers claim will save them.

  1. But it doesn’t, the Word specifically stated another Jesus.

While I was meditating on the phrase “another Jesus” I realized that this must be a counterfeit ‘Jesus’ and that the difference will only be recognized IF you know the true ‘Jesus”.

According to “Easton’s Bible Dictionary” the name Jesus is referred to the following commentary;

Jesus

(1.) Joshua, the son of Nun (Act_7:45; Heb_4:8; R.V., “Joshua”).

(2.) A Jewish Christian surnamed Justus (Col_4:11).

(3.) The proper, as Christ is the official, name of our Lord. To distinguish him from others so called, he is spoken of as “Jesus of Nazareth” (Joh_18:7), and “Jesus the son of Joseph” (Joh_6:42).
This is the Greek form of the Hebrew name Joshua, which was originally Hoshea (Num_13:8, Num_13:16), but changed by Moses into Jehoshua (Num_13:16; 1Ch_7:27), or Joshua. After the Exile it assumed the form Jeshua, whence the Greek form Jesus. It was given to our Lord to denote the object of his mission, to save (Mat_1:21).

So this shows that the name of Jesus was common in those days, so the question is by what name will every knee bow down?

Turn in your Bibles to Acts 3:6 which reads as follows:

“Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”

(Emphasis mine)

And another Scripture Acts 4:10 reads as follows:

“Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.”

(Emphasis mine)

So we have learned that the Name that should be used to identify the true God and Saviour is the “Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth”. No doubt that every body will know who you are talking about by using that name. And notice that the miracles were done by that name, which is the full title of our Lord and God and Saviour!

So now we go back to the term ‘preached another Jesus’ and I wander what we are missing, because as already been established it was the serpent  that beguiled Eve through his subtilty which is [satan] and therefore he [satan] could also corrupt our minds from the simplicity that is in Christ.

We all know that you pray to the Father in the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and here is some [truth] that unfortunately came by the ‘traditions of men’. And that was that you pray to Jesus. I’ve been taught that way in kindergarten, remember, but the perfect example is the LORD’s pray, the one that HE taught HIS disciples. (John 14:13; 15:16; 16:23)

So to understand the first part of this study is that ‘he that cometh preaching another Jesus’ will not be using the proper name “JESUS CHRIST of NAZARETH”, and then you will know that he is a counterfeit. Make no mistake that he will be preaching and that means he will be what the Word calls in the following Scriptures;

Mat 7:15

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

(Emphasis mine)

Act 20:29

For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

(Emphasis mine)

The second phrase in the mentioned Scripture is “received another spirit” that we will examine to understand the seriousness of being obedient to GOD’s Word.

This tells me that it is possible to “receive another spirit”, meaning not the Holy Spirit! Think of the ramifications if you indeed have received “another spirit”! If off course it is not the Holy Spirit then it is an evil spirit or I would go so far as to say a demon, a counterfeit Holy Spirit with the counterfeit manifestations!

As specified in 1 John 4:1 and I quote;

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

Remember that satan is the master deceiver and if an angel appear next to your bed with all the glamour and light and power, how will you know whether he is from the Father or satan masquerading as one of God’s messengers?

You ask him who do you serve and what is His Name and what is His Son’s Name according to Proverbs 30:4!

So it is possible to receive ‘another spirit’ and then it would be very easy to accept the “another Jesus”, and from there they will preach ‘another gospel’.

The third phrase in the mentioned Scripture is “another gospel” and the Scripture gives the impression that you had to ‘accept’ this ‘another’ gospel.

Question, how would you accept ‘another gospel’?

There definitely have to be a decline in your spiritual life or the lack of it in the sense of not studying God’s Word, and therefore receiving ‘another spirit’ and then believing the ‘other Jesus’ that is being preached.

The true Gospel is explained in the following Scripture that even a child can understand;

1 Corinthians 15:1-4

“Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;

By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;

 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”

(Emphasis mine)

Three things that make up the Gospel and these are;

  1. He died for our SINS,
  2. He was buried (proving He died), and
  3. He arose again taking up the same body that he comes in.

So in a nutshell to bring ‘another gospel’ you have to bring the opposite or deny the above three statements.

It is real scary to think that there are teachers and preachers and even pastors that do not believe that Christ rose bodily from the grave or worse that He was not born of a Virgin!

“The following poll was conducted by a Christian researcher, called George Barna, stated that 26 percent of born-agains believe all religions are essentially the same and that 50 percent believe that a life of good works will enable a person to get to heaven.

He goes on, though, to cite data that cast doubt on whether some of these born-again Christians will be there. More than one in three (35 percent) born-again Christians do not believe that Jesus rose physically from the dead.

Slightly more born-again Christians believe in the devil than believe in the Holy Spirit, though 45 percent do not believe that Satan exists. Ten percent believe in reincarnation. Twenty-nine percent believe it is possible to communicate with the dead.”

Now this is scary and that means also that we are smack in the middle of the Apostasy church in the last days!

So now I will refer you to Scripture that we have to apply to ourselves which are                     2 Corinthians 13:5;

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”

(Emphasis mine)

From this Scripture we have to give account to the Father of our actions and who did you follow “JESUS CHRIST of NAZARETH” or “ANOTHER JESUS”.

As the writer to the Church in Corinth exclaimed in 1 Corinthians 1:12-13 that;

Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?”

I believe to close, one has to examine your self daily and even your Theology, and the Doctrines that you live by, and always compare what you have been taught by the “traditions of men”, to the WORD of GOD, as mentioned in Mark 7:13;

“Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.”

(Emphasis mine)

Colossians 2:8

“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the traditions of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

(Emphasis mine)

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

(1 Thessalonians 5:23)

May the Grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST of NAZARETH be with your spirit

Amen and amen
