REDEDICATING THE LAND TO GOD
Group Plans Nationwide Event, Plant-A-Cross Initiative
To Mark 400th Anniversary of First Landing

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia, Dec. 6, 2006 - Thousands of people are expected on the shores of Virginia Beach next April as Christians across the country mark the 400th anniversary of the first landing of English settlers in America, an event that will be highlighted by efforts to rededicate the land to God.

The Assembly 2007 is an official part of the Jamestown Quadra-centennial gathering and will bring together top Christian leaders for a time of prayer, praise and rededication. It was on April 29, 1607, that a young Anglican chaplain, Robert Hunt, planted a cross on what is now known as Cape Henry, dedicating the new land for the purposes of God.

“We see this as a God-given time for our nation,” said Bishop John Gimenez, who is leading the team that is organizing the event. “We are encouraging Christians across the country to plant a cross at their churches or in their front yards to do their own personal dedication of their land to God.”

According to organizers, the event will both make history and renew it – by re-establishing a 400-year-old covenant with God on Dedication Sunday, April 29, 2007. A “consecration conference” will be held in the days beforehand at Rock Church in Virginia Beach.

The April 29th event will be marked by a five-hour service along the 20th Street beach from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Strategic times of prayer, repentance and rededication will be led by key Christian leaders, including the Rev. Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network; the Rev. Marcus Lamb, founder and president of Daystar Television; and the Rev. Jack Hayford, founding pastor of Church on the Way in Van Nuys, California.

“People of faith from across the country see the vision of what we’re doing,” said Pastor Anne Gimenez of Rock Church in Virginia Beach, “recognizing the historical significance of the event as Robert Hunt dedicated the new land to God.”

Christians who can’t travel to Virginia Beach are encouraged to plant crosses in their own yards and churches. A special commemorative cross can be ordered online for a nominal cost.

Additional details about the Rededication Sunday, the Consecration Conference and the Plant-A-Cross Initiative can be found online at www.TheAssembly2007.org. The site includes testimonials from key leaders along with a history of the landing and ways individuals and churches can participate.

The Assembly 2007 is being sponsored by One Nation Under God, a non-profit ministry dedicated to advancing the kingdom through prayer mobilization and strategic events. Based out of Rock Church in Virginia Beach, One Nation Under God has been responsible for some of the country’s most successful prayer events, including Washington for Jesus and America for Jesus.
