(I'm sure that you recall the story about the brilliant light that surrounded Iran's president Ahmadinejad at the U.N.  The article below claims that the light was manifested by Maitreya which was news to me.  Maitreya's website also falsely claims in another article at http://www.share-international.org/maitreya/Ma_main.htm that "He has been expected for generations by all of the major religions. Christians know him as Christ, & expect his imminent return. Jews await him as the Messiah; Hindus look for the coming of Krishna; Buddhists expect him as Maitreya Buddha; and Muslims anticipate the Imam Mahdi or Messiah." The article below also claims that "the Imam Mahdi is one of the names by which Maitreya is expected.")

We are all aware of the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s fanatical stance vis à vis Israel, and the unacceptable nature of those public utterances. Share International does not endorse such unrestrained polemic.
Nevertheless, when President Ahmadinejad was at the United Nations in New York speaking to world leaders on 17 September 2005, it was reported that during his address he was surrounded by brilliant light. It is our information that that light was manifested by Maitreya.
Witnesses reported seeing a brilliant light that surrounded the President as he began to speak and remained with him throughout his speech. He himself reported later that he had felt something unusual happening.
At the end of his speech President Ahmadinejad said: "From the beginning of time, humanity has longed for the day when justice, peace, equality and compassion envelop the world. All of us can contribute to the establishment of such a world. When that day comes, the ultimate promise of all Divine religions will be fulfilled with the emergence of a perfect human being who is heir to all prophets and pious men. He will lead the world to justice and absolute peace. O mighty Lord, I pray to you to hasten the emergence of your last repository, the promised one, that perfect and pure human being, the one that will fill this world with justice and peace.”
President Ahmadinejad, a Shiite Muslim, has made known his belief, as have many other Shiites, that the appearance of the Imam Mahdi is imminent. Some commentators dismiss this as political opportunism, but in early November 2005 he told senior Iranian religious leaders that he saw the mission of his government as preparing the way “for the glorious appearance of the Imam Mahdi – May God Hasten His Appearance". More recently he has told audiences that the Imam Mahdi’s appearance would happen within two years. As readers will know, the Imam Mahdi is one of the names by which Maitreya is expected.
