"Pro-Syrian Opposition Attempts to Overthrow Lebanon Gov't!"

DEBKAfile reports: Lebanon's pro-Syrian opposition is going forward with its revolt to seize government in Beirut ' contrary to reports of a suspension

January 25, 2007, 4:25 PM (GMT+02:00)

Our sources in Beirut report that the Hizballah-led bloc's effort to carry out the first Middle East revolution this century to overthrow a pro-Western government is designed to go forward in calculated stages, rather than a continuous operation.

On Day one Tuesday, 3 Lebanese were killed, 133 were injured and the country was paralyzed. The anti-government bloc, headed by Hizballah's Hassan Nasrallah and pro-Syrian allies, Gen. Michel Aoun and the north Lebanese Faranjieh clan, has been encouraged by its initial effectiveness to carry on to the next stage at some unspecified moment.

The US will soon present evidence of Iranian agents' hostile activities in Iraq

January 25, 2007, 10:42 AM (GMT+02:00)

US ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad and State Department spokesman Sean McCormack made statements to this effect Wednesday, Jan 24, amid peaking US-Iran military tensions over Iraq. The ambassador added that the charges against the Revolutionary Guards al Quds Brigade agents detained in Irbil Jan. 11 would be made public. McCormack spoke of solid evidence' that Iranian agents sent by the Iranian government were working with individuals and groups in Iraq to harm our troops.'

DEBKA-Net-Weekly 286 of Jan 19 revealed some of this evidence and named the head of the Iranian network in Irbil as Col. Fars Hassami, No.3 of the RGs al Quds Brigade hierarchy.

Bush warns of escalating danger from Shiite Muslim extremists, second only to al Qaeda

January 24, 2007, 11:02 PM (GMT+02:00)

In his State of the Union speech Tuesday, the US president cautioned Iran against supporting Shiite attacks against Sunni Muslims in Iraq. He said Shiite extremists backed by Iran were on the rise as terrorist threats and as determined as their Sunni counterparts to create a Middle East governed by repressive regimes.

The coming DEBKA-Net-Weekly, out this Friday, pinpoints the new centers of Iran-backed Shiite expansion across the Middle East, according to the latest intelligence data prompting Bush's warning.

Preempting a Nuclear Armed Iran: An Imminent Reality?

By Sean Osborne, Associate Director, Military Affairs

23 January 2007: Last Sunday, 21 January 2007, in an evening address before the gathered attendees at the Herzliya Conference in Israel, the U.S. Under-Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Nicholas Burns, made the following unequivocal statement: the policy of the United States is that we cannot allow Iran to become a nuclear weapons state.' The timing of this official pronouncement from the American government may foretell dire consequences to the unquestioned desire of the Islamic Republic of Iran in its relentless drive to become a nuclear armed state.

A review of OSINT reporting regarding the military signals being sent to Tehran reveals that these words from the under-secretary have a high probability of being much more than mere political rhetoric. In fact, they could well be the last words on the subject prior to a military preemptive move by the United States in executing the American policy.[For the complete analysis click "read more" above"]

Muslim Convert and Refugee from Lebanon Addresses CAIR Canada's Campaign of Bias

24 January 2007: There is a growing and forceful campaign by CAIR and other Islamist organizations in Canada to silence the free speech of Zachariah Anani by calling for his arrest and deportation. Anani is a Muslim convert to Christianity, former terrorist-militant and refugee from Lebanon. CAIR, an organization which claims to be the voice of moderation, should be embracing Anani's message against violence and the dangers of extremism instead of mounting a witch hunt against him.

It is no wonder that CAIR is attacking Anani, as it has been documented that many of the leaders of CAIR have openly supported the positions of Hamas, Hizballah and al-Queda ' all recognized terrorist organizations.

Recently, Anani spoke on the dangers of radical extremism at a church in Ontario. A backlash ensued, with CAIR and other Islamist groups pressuring political leaders to throw Anani and his family out of the country. Two members of Parliament, and one member of City Council joined the mayor of Windsor in denouncing Anani. None of these political officials, however, attended the lecture or even watched a video of it. The content of Anani's speech was almost exclusively from passages he read directly from the Koran. Wally Chafchak, a member of the Windsor Police Services Board and the Windsor Islamic Association, is leading the charge to have Anani arrested. According to Arab American News of Michigan, CAIR Canada is also calling for Anani's arrest.
