Generations: By David WikleGenerations after generations, after generations, have come and gone. Each generation thinking they are the ones who will see Jesus return.
Even the first generation of the disciples/apostles thought He was coming back in their day. They asked questions and were Watchers.
Each generation has had its own prophets and books concerning the coming of the Lord. Each lived as though His return was near and surly before they died.
Many reading this thought they would never see the year 2000 and here we are humming along in 2005. The older ones who are now alive have read the books and have seen groups of people who believed it would happen so much that they sold all their goods and fled to the mountains to await His coming.
In our neighborhood, we had a group of young German Baptist/Amish people who left their churches and started their own church. The girls lived in the “girls house” and the boys lived in the “boys house”. They were not going to married because they knew that the Lord was coming very soon. When these boys/girls got to be about 35 years old; they reconsider and all got married. They now have kids getting married.
Each generation has its key scriptures leading them to believe that their generation is the one. As you get older and see your grandparents pass on then your parents pass on; you are watching the generations pass that each believed that they were the ones.
In WWI and WWII many thought that they were living in the very last of days. So many were being killed and distress of the nations was extreme. You can read books of what they went through and what there thinking was. The prophets were alive with the message “we are the generation”.
My point is this:
As much as the disciples/apostles thought it was their generation; we of this generation think the very same thing. Our eternal hope is before us and it seems within reach. Our hope will continue with us until we are out of here or we pass on as other generations have done.
Last year (2004) many families have seen a generation pass before them. Someone passed on that thought that they were the generation. Dr. Eby told us all that he was of that generation, but his generation has passed on.
BUT WE ALL KNOW that we are that generation (our voices blend with those of other generations). As soon as a Rapture date fails, we are all like hound dogs sniffing out the next possible date. What an exciting trip this is; wouldn’t want it any other way.
