"To Corey Ann Re: Valentine's Day"
I can understand how you want to make sure
you are honoring God in your celebrations/refraining from
celebrating...but the story of Valentine is one based on sharing of the
Gospel, isn't it?
I know that Satan, and man on his own can take
over whatever is left 'unattended to'...but the story of Valentine is
steeped in that of Christ based love.
One version has him
continuing to perform Scripturaly sound marriages when there was a ban
on them, then, when imprisoned he shared the Gospel with the daughter
of the jailer. He signed each 'letter of the love' (of Christ) "your
Valentine". The world may want to ignore the Christian beginnings of
this tradition, but they are there. Even when each day dawns, it
belongs soley to the LORD....if there is some other tradition or ritual
tagged onto it, all we, as the Body of Christ has to do is rebuke and
reclaim it. This is the Day that the Lord has made...I will rejoice and
be glad in it.
If an ancient man of times past died a martyrs
death on this day, and we can use it to spread some love, smiles and
happiness to each other, I don't see the harm in it. I got some
slightly wilted flowers from my hubby this morning (we are on vacation
and I think he had them hidden for at least 2 days! heh), and there is
nothing 'pagan' about that gift.
Just my opinion, YMMV.
Blessings~
