That sounds like Bakersfield area or towards the desert.  I know there are military bases out there as my nephew served around that area.  I would suggest that you do a Bakersfield, or Lancaster search news search of any sightings.   By the way, historically since I am a native to Bakersfield, lots of UFO sightings talk since I was a kid back in the 1950's to early 1960's.
 
Edwards airforce base is out towards the are you were facing.   Hmm.
 
I will ask family who live out in the desert if they have spotted anything.
