"Shroud / face cloth / Sudarium"
In answer to Joseph about the scripture and
the burial face cloth of Christ. Please do a study on the
blood covered cloth that has been kept in Spain ( city of Olievto?)
from about the year 700 AD. It has many points of congruence with
the Shroud. That means that the blood stains are very similar,
although the Sudarium has a lot more blood and possibly lung fluid,
because as some theorize, it was placed directly on Jesus' face and
then the Shroud.
I don't think you have to believe in the
Shroud to be a Christian, but it is special to me, because as a medical
technologist, it helped restore my faith in Christ's
resurrection. The best way to have faith is without physical
evidence (John 20:29), but some of us, like Thomas, needed some extra
help.
I don't know how we got on the subject of cloning
the Shroud. Although they have discovered male, denatured
(old/ancient) hemoglobin on both the Shroud and the Sudarium, I don't
know of anyone who is trying to clone it. I don't think there is
enough genetic material there to try, and I would agree that humans
have no business trying to clone it.
By the way, I am not
Roman Catholic, but full Gospel Protestant. As far as I know, the
Catholic Church still has no official opinion on the authenticity of
the Shroud.
Here is one fascinating fact about the
bloodstains on the Shroud. They are red, not dark brown as most
old blood stains would be. I have heard two scientific
theories about why they are red. The first theory is that the
blood came from a tortured person, and therefore the blood chemical
bilirubin was in high concentration. The most recent theory was
formed by Italian scientists who bombarded blood with neutrons to form
a another molecular form of blood. This form STAYS
red. Could Christ's physical body given off neutrons or other
atomic particles as he resurrected ??? I don't know, but it might
be one of the questions that I ask Him someday.
