"Amen to David Campbell on
Fasting"
Fasting is another benefit God gave us and we can even
fast just one meal or
two. A lot of people fast from sunup to sundown, so really,
it is the breakfast and
lunch fast of food. Certain people with various health
problems may have to be very
careful, but there are also fasts they can do, similar
to Daniel's fast.
.the "no pleasant bread" fast. I think we can all agree
that
Daniel's fast was a very powerful vehicle along with
his prayers. Daniel ate, but
he denied himself meats (and I believe fish and fowl
also), and wine, as well as
delicate foods of pastries, etc. To me, it seems he ate
veggies and maybe a
fruit only and that purely enough for sustenance rather
than for pleasure.
Daniel 1:
[1] In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing
was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing
was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing,
and had understanding of the vision.
[2] In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.
[3] I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine
in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks
were fulfilled.
[4] And in the four and twentieth day of the first month,
as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel;
[5] Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold
a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold
of Uphaz:
[6] His body also was like the beryl, and his face as
the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms
and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words
like the voice of a multitude.
[7] And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that
were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so
that they fled to hide themselves.
[8] Therefore I was left alone, and saw this great vision,
and there remained no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me
into corruption, and I retained no strength.
[9] Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard
the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face
toward the ground.
[10] And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon
my knees and upon the palms of my hands.
[11] And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved,
understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto
thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.
[12] Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from
the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten
thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.
David, I really appreciate your testimony of fasting
blessings and encouragement
for all of us. I would like to hear more experiences
of fasting and answered prayers.
too, from others who want to share.
I will say just a bit for encouragement also, and that
in the first "no pleasant bread"
fast I did it for only 1 meal. I was working at
the time and I just sort of looked around
and the thing I saw in my cupboard that I disliked the
most was canned turnip
greens, of which I had several cans sitting there for
a long time unopened. So I
put those cold greens in a bowl and took them to work
and ate only those for lunch,
got off by myself and prayed as much as I had time to.
This was all new to me and
at the time, it seemed strange, but I can still remember
the power of God in answering
a prayer I had prayed for years without answer until
the day after that simple
fast.
I did eat my regular evening meal that day , but continued
in prayer and reading
some scripture until bedtime that same night. The very
next day the answer came.
He did honor that little fast from a newborn Christian,
though, and He did it rapidly
and totally, even though I didn't really understand much
about fasting and prayer
at the time., I had only heard that a lady in our prayer
group fasted 3 days and
was healed of multiple sclerosis. I knew this lady and
when this dread disease
came back I think it was in about a year or 2, she fasted
again and it has been gone
ever since, as far as I know, but I haven't heard from
her in years now.
