"Perspective"

I just wanted to comment briefly on the ongoing discussion concerning Dr. Eby.

I, for one, bought that cassette tape that was circulating around at the time.

I have known Ellen for a long time, and I do not know her as one who does not believe in the supernatural power of God.  I believe the point that Ellen is trying to make concerning Dr. Eby, is that when anyone makes a comment that the Rapture will happen before they die, and it does not come to pass, that according to SCRIPTURE we are to regard them as a false prophet.

We all come from different backgrounds, and those backgrounds and experiences mould us into the people we are today.  These make up the "perspective" we have today concerning such a charged issue as a NDE or "words from the Lord".

I personally have experienced supernatural healing, and have heard the angels of God.  I have had "experiences" perhaps similar to what others have had, but God has taught me that "experiences" can be mimicked. He has taught me to gauge every "experience"  and compare it to HIS WORD. If it doesn't line up, I must throw out the "experience". If I am sincere in following Jesus Christ, I must be willing to admit that I

#1) Didn't hear correctly from God (i.e. a spirit of error - 1 Jn. 4:6)
#2) Only "see" in part.

A mature believer understands Jesus' words,

Mt. 4:4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

A mature believer also is willing to admit that they have made a mistake, no matter how "real" the experience seemed to be from God.

The Word of God is to be our "plumbline" in these days of counterfeit miracles.  Paul warns us that the antichrist will come with all lying signs and wonders.

I think Ellen is correct in measuring every "experience" (no matter how godly the man is, or the facts surrounding God's mercy in sparing his life ) with God's Word.

No one is disparaging that a miracle happened to Dr. Eby.  However, one must examine the message to see if it lines up with Scripture. We have all been wrong from time to time, but to gauge a whole "doctrine" upon a false message is against the warnings of Scripture.

Just my .02
