I have been doing some studying on Genesis and have run into a couple of bumps in the road.  Who better than to smooth my travels than all of you and the wisdom you bring.  Here goes.

I have a question about Genesis 6:2……”That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose…..”

I’ve always been taught that the sons of God are angels….in this case, fallen angels who had intercourse with women, thus creating giants on the earth.  Last night I was reading Job 1:6 and it mentions the sons of God again.  “Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them.”  My take on this is that these sons of God are fallen angels, but my Bible’s interpretation states that these sons of God were saints, or professors of religion, but there was a Satan among these who came to distract them.  As a matter of fact, my Bible also says the same thing about Genesis 6:2, saying that the sons of God were saints who were unequally yoked with daughters of men…     But….there are also verses in the New Testament where we, as believers are referred to as the sons of God.  I need some clarification on this.  :)

I’m not quite finished yet.  This is the part where you will think I’ve really flipped my lid.  I’m really not as crazy as this next part will make me sound.  Bear with me.

I am an elementary school teacher and last week my students and I were reading a Scholastic News.  In this one particular edition, it stated that archeologists have recently found an claw that they assume belonged to an estimated 96 inch long scorpion.  That is one big ol’ bugger.  My students and I got on the subject of dinosaurs and where they came from and blah, blah, blah…….  Of course, having to keep my Christian comments out of the “school zone”, I didn’t have a lot to offer them.  But………………….

I don’t think I even have the answers.  I’ve never read about it.  I know that there are a lot of people that think there was a span of time somewhere in Genesis where they think dinosaurs existed.  There is the whole “pre adamic” era that I’ve read about.

Then I had what I like to call, an epiphany, only because it’s a big word and I like the sound of it.  :)  And here it is….

 

We really don’t know the length of time from the end of God’s 6 day creation to when Adam and Eve fell, do we?  If someone knows, please tell me.  Anyway….Adam and Eve were safe in the Garden of Eden.   But animals were inside and OUTSIDE of the garden.  What if, demons…..as gross and hideous and horrible as they are, had intercourse with the animals…..thus creating ugly, giant beasts.  If the sons of God in Genesis 6:2 were really fallen angels and had intercourse with earthly women, thus creating giants………what would keep them from doing the same with animals?  Why not animal giants?  In the Old Testament, the people of Sodom and Gomorrah did really gross stuff with animals…….Yucky, yucky stuff.

It was just something that came to me.  Whether it’s a revelation or just a silly thought that entered my mind…….I don’t know.   Maybe I gave you something to ponder…….or maybe a really good belly laugh.  It would be good either way.  There’s nothing like a good epiphany or a good laugh.
