No Speculation needed - The Bible answers....
God chose for His Son to be born of the tribe of Judah, when Judah was a son of Leah, instead of Jacob's wife Rachel whom he loved, and for whom he was forced to work an additional seven years?
Genesis 29:35 (King James Version)
35And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
The tribe that will praise the Lord.....
Why did God never change Isaac's name as He did Abram and Jacob?
Well, Isaac means laughter, because Jehovah does the impossible - the dominant theme of Israel's entire existence...Think of it as The Lord's way of laughing His tail off at the nations of the earth. Also, Abram was childless, so when he begat children finally his name was changed to denote his status. Jacob, means "heel-catcher," a nasty connotation for the chosen prince of The Lord - a name definitely worth a name change....Israel is much better. Besides, after Jacob had twelve sons his name was changed to reflect his status as a father - just like Abraham's name was adjusted too.
Genesis 17: 19-21
19And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
20And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
21But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.
Genesis 18: 9-15
9And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. 10And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.
11Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
12Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?
13And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old?
14Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.
15Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh.
And why if Abram was changed to Abraham, and Jacob was changed to Israel--do we speak of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?
Why wouldn't we say the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel?
Genesis 17: 5-8
5Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. 6And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
7And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.
8And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God.
