Dear Frank, Rene, and others who misunderstood me:Please know that my comments were not meant to be disrespectful to the memory of Dr. Eby. I am sorry that you are so offended, Frank, as it is obvious from your post that my words bothered you. I hope that we can recognize and agree that reactions in the flesh are not of Christ. I am the weakest of vessels here, so I pray that my words don't offend you more. Nevertheless.....
I cannot apologize for stating that Dr. Eby, as well intentioned as he was, as good a man as he was, as loving as he was, was also clearly wrong about the prophecy that he gave. He said the rapture would occur before he died, and that clearly, unequivocally, did not happen.
Did you know that Muslims, Buddhists and others of different religions have dreams that confirm their own beliefs too? Buddhists have had dreams about Buddha, Muslims have had dreams about paradise with 70 virgins, and others have had similar dreams as well confirming their religion. Do these dreams convince them their beliefs are right and true? Most certainly they do. Does that make these beliefs the TRUTH though? Certainly not.
Just because someone has a dream about heaven or hell, does NOT mean that it was from God. Satan comes as an angel of light to deceive, if possible, the very elect. He comes dressed in angel clothes and speaks words we would expect the Lord to say. Just because the dream or vision or experience changed the person's life, does not mean that it was from God. If the purpose of the dream was to have the person swallow a camel, then no matter how good it makes him feel or how much it has changed his life, if he is swallowing a camel, he is still swallowing a camel.
Why would God do this or allow this? He tells us VERY CLEARLY.
If we come to God with preconceived ideas and understandings concerning what WE THINK the truth is, what we think the interpretation is, then God will answer us according to the idols of our heart. In our blindness, we don't realize we have idols (of our own understanding), but the fact that most don't see it doesn't mean that they are not there. We need eyesalve in order to see such things. 1 Kings 22 and Ezek 14 are instructive about how God deals with people who set up idols of their own understanding. Thus, when people have dreams, more often than not their dreams are originating from the idols in their heart (mind), rather than from God. God has given them the answer that their idol would have given (as established by precedent in His Word in 1 Kings 22 and Ezek. 14). We know this also because God has already told us in Deut. 18:22
"When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him."
1. Did Dr. Eby speak in the name of the Lord? Did he not say the Lord showed him these things?
2. Did he say the rapture would come while he was alive? He said this, did he not?
3. Did it come true? The answer is obvious, isn't it?
I have nothing against Dr. Eby, and I am sure that he is with the Lord. But I am just as sure that though he sincerely believed that what he saw came from the Lord, he was just as sincerely wrong. It was a deception dressed up to look like Truth.
What is the camel then, one might say?
It is woven among doctrines that have infiltrated the church since 400 AD.....But that is a subject for another time and place, and that's all I have to say about that at this time.
For those who insist that there are biblical accounts, I would like to see Bible reference and verse for those who made trips to heaven and hell. Jesus gave us the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, but Lazarus (not the brother of Mary and Mary) did not personally come back from a trip to hell and describe it. Jesus Himself did not describe the place where the rich man was as Dante and other writers have. The apostle John wrote what he was told to write under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, after being given a vision from the Lord. We are not told whether he actually was caught up to heaven, but he wrote what he saw.
The apostle Paul also had a similar vision of being caught up to the third heaven, but he was not told to describe it to us. Quite the contrary. Whether it was actually himself he was speaking of or another man, he said it was too great to speak of. See 2 Cor 12. I believe the person was Paul, but Paul knew that boasting of having a vision of the third heaven is just that--- boasting. PRIDE. That is why he framed it such that it was an anonymous person. He also immediately followed this account with his telling us off his thorn in the flesh, to KEEP HIM FROM BEING PRIDEFUL.
2 Cor 12:7And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
Neither John nor Paul nor the other apostles were told to tell anyone that Jesus was coming at a specified time, in their lifetime or anyone elses. They may have had their own thoughts and opinions, but those were not recorded as part of the inspired Word of God and that Book is complete. I believe we all are familiar with the warning in Rev 22: 18-19:
"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book."
Those who want to continue to discuss these things outside this website are free to email me.
Blessings to all.
