"The past is prologue.....nothing has chnaged in the Middle East in 60 years!"

Regarding the 6 day war  in June, 1967..........

"Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it."

If the 6 Day War is so important to Bible prophecy, I thought it might be important enough to read up on it. So, I am reading a book on it by the same name, by Michael Oren. Claimed to be the definitive and objective book on the subject, I am wading through it. And it is amazing.......once again, there is  much have we/I  never known about the events that led up to the war.

As I read about the events preceding the war, it sounds like the events happening right NOW. The names of the players have changed.....(Iran is the current culprit, instead of Egypt)......but the rhetoric and the strategies seem pretty much the same.  Oh, and there are many of the same players.......like Syria and Lebanon......and the same terrorist groups as well.

Here are a few thoughts.....and some things I didn't know.....

The diversion of water coming into Israel through the Jordan river was a big part of the reason for the 1967 war.  Hmmmmmmm, isn't water still a big concern in Israel??

History:  The British, pre-1948, had promised land to BOTH the Palestinians.....AND Israel.  The arabs are STILL mad about what they didn't get.....  There was a BIG insurrection in Palestine in 1936-1939 by the arabs, against the British and the Jews.  Much of the arab leadership was deported and their economy was hurt.  (Nothing has changed...their economy in Gaza is still lousy)  Thus...they threw in on the side of Hitler.  (good choice!!......another big mistake.)  The Palestinians have always been friends of our enemies.   For the Palestinians, independence under Jewish dominion could NEVER be an option...it was just another form of colonialism.  THIS is why there has NOT been a 2-state solution for 60 years!!    The Palestinians arabs considered the Jewish community there a tool of Western imperialism.......The past is prologue!

AFter WW2, the UN passed resolution 181, creating the 2 state solution.  As it has always been (then and again in 2000 with Clinton and Arafat) the Jews were for it and the Palestinians wanted more.....they have always wanted sovereingty over ALL of Palestine!!  So, in late 1948, the arabs attacked.  Did you know, Jerusalem came under a brutal seige?   (I didn't.)  And, like with the Lebanon was last summer, everybody uses UN truces to re-arm.  Some things never change......

This war is known by the arabs as:   The Disaster.   Yet, they had victory celebrations in Cairo and Damascus.....go figure.  (Just like last summer in Lebanon.  Arabs never really lose ANY war over there!)

There was a GAA (General Armistice AGreement) between Israel and Egypt/Jordan, Lebanon and Syria in 1949 that deeply influenced Arab-Israel relations over the next 19 years.  It was highly ambiguous, one-sided for the arabs, and DENIED THE iSRAELI-S ANY FORM OF LEGITIMACY OR RECOGNITION.  As I was reading all of this I kept thinking:  NOTHING HAS CHANGED.....NOTHING!  (ie, Oslo Accords, 1993)

Oh, and GET THIS:  The UN official who drafted this agreement, GOT A NOBEL PEACE PRIZE!!!!  WOW!  Remember that Arafat got a peace Prize for the 1993 Oslo Peace agreement!  (along with Clinton and Rabin)
And....the GAA in fact perpetuated the 1948 conflict and prepared the ground for war at a later date.

(I have quoted from the book throughout my writing here....)

The book says:  The Isralis had been DUPED.  (And what do you think about the 1993 Oslo accord?  I'd say the Israelis were DUPED  AGAIN.....and again.....and again.........)  And Oren also says: "So the agreement initially hailed as a trophy for Israel soon became its millstone.  Efforts by the US, the British and a procession of independent would-be mediators failed to move Iarael and the arab states substantially in the direction of peace."   WOW.....we could be talking about the Oslo accords with these SAME words!!  Again, the past is prologue.....and, those who do NOT know history WILL BE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT!

FYI.....regime change was happening ALOT in the arab world in the 1950's and 1960's.   16 regime changes in Syria in 16 years!!  EVERY arab leader always had to worry about losing his job....and his life!!

FYI..Russia supported Israel up until 1954...when they decided there was nothing in it any more for Russia. They could get more out of supporting the arabs. "Short of desroying Israel, the Russians endorsed all and every means of realizing arab rights in Palestine."

Page 8.  Thus, "the cold war had come to the Middle East in 1954. That was the year the US and Britain aspired to defend the region through an alliance with Iran, Turkey and Pakistan et al.  Viewing the Arab-Israel conflict as an obstacle to this bloc, Anglo-American planners sought to remove it with a secret peace initiative. The plan, code named ALPHA, was to coerce Israel into conceding large chunks of teritory in return for an Arab pledge of nobelligerency."   WHAT????   Do you mean....LAND FOR PEACE????

Can you believe the similarities between then and NOW??  The same plans....basically, the same players in this game......... and I"m only up through page 8 in the book!!  The similarities are CONSTANT throughout the book...NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!

My perspective:   God is certainly working to bring this to a head sometime soon. ALL EYES ARE ON ISRAEL.
The Bible says:  Zechariah, 12:2  Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone (millstone) for all peoples;  all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. "

Again in Zech 12:19  and I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn."

As for the events in the middle east over the past 60 years............"The more things change, the more they stay the same."
