Symbolism is an interesting subject. The letter "S" has stood for some time as a symbol for a snake or serpent. Notice that the "S" is shaped like a snake and the sound of an "S" is like the hiss of a snake. But it may go deeper than superficial. In Greek Gematria the symbol "Stigma" looks similar to our modern "S" and has a representation of the number 6. And the number 6 from 66 to 666 in the Bible and as elaborated in books such as Don Kistler's "The Arithmetic of God" stands for satan and his influence. The number "6" is in the shape of a coiled snake and again has a sound similar to the "hiss" of a snake.
Recognition of these symbols can keep one from as easily being led astray when they are combined with other symbols. For example, take the rainbow, THE symbol given by God to man to represent God's promise to never again destroy the whole earth by water. (Notice the promise says nothing about destruction by fire.) Also note that the number 7 in the before mentioned book represents "completion, perfection, bringing to an end". The rainbow represented the bringing to the end of the flood and the destruction of all mankind outside of Noah's family. And there are 7 colors in the rainbow as represented by the old pneumonic “ROY G BIV”, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. However, invariably when it seems satan counterfeits this symbol and tries to divert attention away from its true meaning, assigning some new meaning, the rainbow will only have 6 colors. People who have no clue about symbolism will not even notice.
SUPERBOWL: What symbolism is there in the Superbowl? The Superbowl represents the climax of the professional football season. Sadly, there are people that get more excited about the Superbowl than anything else in the year. There are many pictures of football fans, (which “fans” happens to be the shortened form of the word “fanatics”), raising their arms in a form of “praise” for their team when such praise is reserved for God and God alone.
Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD. Psalm 134:2
It doesn’t say, “Lift up your hands in the stadium, and bless the team”, but sadly this is what people do. They get more excited before their “team” than they ever would before the Lord.
For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Exodus 34:14
SUNDAY: Sunday has symbolized the celebration of Christ rising from the grave, triumphant over death. Sunday been reserved, at least in the United States even before those great men of faith founded this country on puritan and protestant principles, exclusively for the worship of the Godhead, the Father, His Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Many communities did not buy or sell on Sunday. Even after some shops opened up on Sunday, "Blue laws" were passed to prohibit selling of certain merchandise. Although originally "blue laws" in many communities prohibited the selling of any merchandise in observance of the Christian "sabbath". As this country has drifted farther from its Christian roots, and because football is too rough a sport to play professionally more than once a week, Sunday has become the day reserved for us to "worship" professional football, leading to the climax of "Superbowl Sunday". Even pastors have been known to purposely and admittedly cut their sermons short so their "flock" can get home to watch a certain football game.
XV: This is the 40th Super Bowl. The number of 40 has great spiritual meaning to anyone remotely involved with watching for the return of the Prince of Peace, or watching others watch for His return. Forty symbolizes trials and tribulations. When God destroyed the earth with water it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. When Moses met with God on the mountain, Israel was tried for 40 days and turned their worship away from God and to a golden calf. Israel wandered for 40 years in the wilderness because they rejected God's command to inherit the land. Forty years has been applied for watching for His return to 1917, when General Allenby took over Jerusalem, to 1948, when Israel was born a nation in one day, and to 1967, when Jerusalem and other territories were added to Israel. Instead, should forty years, counted inclusively as Super Bowls are counted, be applied to the start of the Superbowl, the grand culmination of the professional football season, the "golden calf" of the idol of sports that has replaced God as the center of so many's devotion in America and other countries as well?
2/5/2006: Countdown to 2/5/2006. I was involved in the writing of the book, "Passion, Power & Glory - Watching for the Return of the Prince of Peace". Which reminds me of a sidenote. One of the best movies Hollywood ever produced in my opinion, and probably because it portrays problems with an unrestricted press which is like Hollywood biting the hand that feeds it, is "Absence of Malice". There is 'THE" line near the end of the movie where Sally Fields is being interviewed by a co-worker of the paper about her relationship with Paul Newman. She answers, "just say, we were involved". Then she is asked by the co-worker, "that's true, isn't it?" To which she answers, "no, but it's accurate." You'd probably have to see the movie to understand.
Anyway, in "Passion, Power & Glory", evidence is presented based on spelled out assumptions as to why believers would have reason to watch both May 5, 2005 and October 5, 2005 for the Rapture. One of the main objectives of the book was to teach people to be watchers for His return and not just watchers of "the watchers". So naturally, since May 5, 2005 was Ascension Day and October 5, 2005 was Rosh Hashana, (per new moon sighting), those same special "Holy" days should be watched in years to come for His return. Yet there were more reasons to watch these dates besides their status as "Holy" days, to where they could be seen as significant day markers. October 5, 2005 was exactly 5 months after May 5, 2005. And counting down, February 5, 2006 is exactly 4 months after October 5, 2005. Also, October 5, 2005 is exactly 153 days after May 5, 2005. The number 153 has great significance and symbolism from the 153 fish caught mentioned in the Bible, which if one hasn't researched this the best book I've seen that discusses it is, "The Pattern & The Prophecy - God's Great Code". (There is only one number in the universe of numbers that when each digit is taken to the trinity power, equals itself, that being 1^3+5^3+3^3 = 153. And exactly 1/3rd of all numbers in the universe of numbers when their digits are taken to the trinity power and this process repeated repeatedly, end up at the number 153. Didn't 1/3rd of the Angels in the Universe fall, and if we are fishers of men are we symbolically replacing these third of the Angels?)
Going on, from October 5, 2005 to February 5, 2005 there are exactly 123 days which is like a countdown, 3-2-1, only in reverse. I realize that the two posts that are referred to at the start of this post deal with destruction and death but so far I've done my best to avoid it. However, the total number of days from May 5, 2005 to February 5, 2005 is 276 days. People who are facinated with numbers as they relate to those used in the Bible and elsewhere, have noted the unusual circumstances surrounding the adding of all the digits that preceed a number, to that number. For example when all the digits preceeding 11 are added to the number 11, which stands for judgment, the result is 66, which stands for idol worship. And when all the numbers that preceed 36 which is the infamous number 6, squared, are added to 36, the result is 666, which needs no explanation. And when all the numbers preceeding 17 are added to 17, which according to "The Arithmetic of God" stands for Victory, the result is 153.
The number 123 cannot be obtained by sequentially adding digits but the number 276 can. It is the result of adding all digits up from 1 to 23. And according to "The Arithmetic of God" which can be verified at http://www.asis.com/~stag/arithme.html the number 23 stands for death. Not to think this is a fluke, consider the number 276 itself which is mentioned in the Bible in Acts 27:36. I can't do justice by describing http://www.comeandsee.org/IMAGES/P276souls.html so I'd suggest reading it for oneself. In summary though, while I believe the timing of the rapture is preordained and set since the beginning of time, I also believe any death and destruction can be averted through the fervent prayer of the Saints. I therefore would ask all the Saints to seek the Lord, repent, get right with God, and interceed for America, as any snare the enemy has laid can be overcome through prayer, and sometimes only through prayer.
Shalom,
Ted
