"Gold crown sacrifice, Olympic example, Bodi Miller or Apollo Ohno"

As I read Malichi this morning I thought it was interesting what happened in
the Olympics with Bodi and Apollo as examples. Malichi 1 and 2 talks about
lame sacrifices not being acceptable, in other words not giving your best,
but only a token, saving your energies on what you want for yourself and
pleasures vs sacrificing personal pleasure for the Lord. Ch 2 deals with
shallow promises and not keeping your passions under control, not being
faithful.

The analogy of a golden medal for the Olympian and a golden crown for the
faithful was similar. Both Bodi and Apollo had a lot of press coverage. They
are both gifted and the top of their field. One was famous for partying and
one was famous for sacrificing his personal life style in persuit of gaining
a gold medal.  Bodi partied, Apollo sacrificed. Bodi came out empty handed,
Apollo gained what he sacrificed for, gold.

It was interting hearing the interviews after the events. Bodi waxed lyrical
and philisophical, it was not that big of a deal not to get a medal he
wanted us to believe. Apollo was very ecstatic, he relished his treasure and
was quick to share the spotlight with his team mates. He was very gracious
in victory and pure hearted about his special moment.

What about us? What we have awaiting us is much more precious than any
Olympic gold medal. What is it worth to us? What are we willing to sacrifice
for it? Where do we spend our time? Where do we spend our money? Can we
cheat God by partying with the world, persuing endless toys and pleasures?
Out of sight out of mind we think. Oh that we could realy see what is going
on, realy know that God watches our every thought and movement, waiting for
us to walk his way.

We can't afford to let such a treasure pass us by. God give us a thankful
heart, help us to see where we realy are.
