Pakistan banned the spreading cartoon riots which have claimed five lives in a week and have begun to shake the regime. In Islamabad, police arrested 400 people including 10 lawmakers who defied the ban, pulled barbed wire across the streets and used tear gas to break up the rally.
The clampdown came as President Musharraf left for a five-day visit to China, after Denmark temporarily shut its embassy in Islamabad and Pakistan recalled its ambassador from Copenhagen for consultations.
In London’s Trafalgar Square, some 15,000 held a licensed rally in protest against the press depictions of the Prophet.
