GOG and MAGOG

There is on going talk and speculation that the Gog and Magog war is about to transpire.

We hope to show from the following passages that that is quite impossible according to Scripture.

Ezekiel prophesied the war between Gog and God "And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee. Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil? Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, Thus says the Lord God; In that day when my people of Israel dwells securely, shall you not know it? And you shall come from your place from the farthest north, you, and many people with you, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army; And you shall come up against my people of Israel, like a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when I shall be sanctified in you, O Gog, before their eyes.  ... And it shall come to pass on that day, when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, says the Lord God, that my fury shall be roused. ... And I will contend with him by pestilence and by blood; and I will rain down upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, a torrential rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will make myself known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord. ... And I will make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not let them profane my holy name any more; and the nations shall know that I am the Lord, the Holy One in Israel." Ezekiel 38:1-16, 18, 22, 23; 39:7

We believe Joel also prophesied the same war  “Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles; Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong. Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD. Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat: for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.  Joel 3:9ff

 Notice from these two Scripture passages what is transpiring.

Ezekiel states that Israel is dwelling in security. “In that day when my people of Israel dwells securely.”

Note also that Joel points out that Israel is at peace with the nations prior to this war.

We can ascertain that Israel is at peace by the Joel passage; there are no weapons of war because the Lord instructs the surrounding nations to: “Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears.”

During the 1000 year kingdom age the emblems of war are no more.

For the Gog and Magog war the Lord instructs Gentiles to make primitive war instruments from the plowshares and pruning hooks that have been used during the 1000 year kingdom age as instruments of harvest.

Let’s look at one more Scripture passage to seal the deal  And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season... And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. Revelation 20:1-3, 7-9

We can know that the Gog and Magog war is after the 1000 year kingdom age where Jesus Christ rules and reigns upon the earth. Israel will be secure during the entire 1000 year reign of Christ. All nations will have no access to weapons of war during the 1000 year kingdom age. Clearly, it is after the 1000 year reign of Christ that Satan is loosed from the abyss.

 It is after the 1000 year kingdom age when Satan will go forth to deceive and many will accept what he offers them. Satan will cause them to think: an evil thought: In their deception they will say, I will go up to the land of un-walled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates.

There is no other time that Israel dwells in safety and rest; there is no other time that she will dwell without walls having neither bar nor gates than during the 1000 year kingdom age.

Indeed, after the 1000 year kingdom age a great army will compass about Jerusalem, but the Lord God of Israel will call down fire to destroy the Gog and Magog army. After that final war between Gog and God the present earth and the present heavens will pass away to make way for the new heavens and the new earth that will never pass away.

This information is only to show us what Scripture prophesies comparing Scripture with Scripture.

The above map shows the land area occupied by the Medes mentioned in Ezekiel 38, 39

This is the very area of peoples that "shall be brought" and will be "drawn out."

Where do the prophetic teachers get Russia out of this and where do they see it happening next on the time-line???

I don't know much but I can look up the Hebrew word meaning of Tubal "thou shall be brought" and Meshech "drawing out" and pretty much hear the Lord's plan for His war with Gog.

Looking at the map - the land of Magog is from Cappadocia to Media. It is the mountainous region once occupied by the descendants of Magog the son of Japeth and grandson of Noah.

Also see Armenia on the map - this area coupled with Colchis that is not on map above, but can be seen here...

Therefore, the area from Colchis to Armenia makes up the northern nation of Meshech.
