Two Important Related Events Occurred in the Middle East Today!

Two significant events, regarding the possibility of a time of "peace and
safety" for the Israeli population, occurred today. Egypt began to try to
barter a peace agreement between Hamas and Israel and, according to an article
by Yoav Stern. Haaretz correspondent, and the Associated Press, "for the
first time Egypt is demanding the P.A. stop violence as a precondition for
peace talks, as stated in the Road Map Peace Plan." Early on Wednesday
(Israeli time zone), "Egyptian Intelligence chief and number two in the
Egyptian government, said that Hamas must promise to end the violent tactics,
recognize Israel and honor previous diplomatic agreements made by the
P.A." All of this would not be too significant if a statement had not been
made by Hamas on Wednesday."

The first event becomes significant by a statement that came out of the meeting
by Hamas deputy leader Moussa Abu Marzouk. Associated Press, Jerusalem Post,
carried the following brief article.

"Hamas: Cease Fire Could be Used to Placate West

"A Hamas Leader on Wednesday offered to renew the terrorist group's
cease-fire with Israel to ease international concerns over the radical
Palestinian movement's triumph in Palestinian elections. The Hamas Deputy
Leader Moussa Abu Marzouk said Hamas would alter some positions and policies,
but that the group will remain committed to the fundamental principles."

Hamas needs time to pull together a disjointed body of Fatah, Islamic Jihad, and
Al-Aksa Martyr's Brigades, into a government. And they do not want to have the
IAF peppering them with air strikes while they attempt this difficult task.
Also, they need money, lots of money. Iran will continue to increase its
financial support to them, but they are also supporting many terrorist groups
internationally. They need European money to develop a concrete government made
up of a state where the man-in-the-street can feed, cloth, and educate his
children. If they can pull that off the Palestinians will be united behind
them. If they decide to take this route, then they must stop the violence long
enough to do it, and they may be able to do it if they can convince all the
other terrorist groups that it is only temporary.

We are moving toward the time frame of 2007 to 2012, when I believe a Jihad will
be launched against Israel from the north. If a time of false peace comes out
of this meeting, and is maintained for a brief period of time, it could mark
the beginning of "peace and safety."
