"IS PASSOVER THE SEASON?"

Hi John and Doves

IS PASSOVER THE SEASON?

There have been many posts on 5 doves in the past about the various Jewish Feasts and what they stand for, but there are some words of Jesus about the “Last Supper” which have always intrigued me.

Luke 22:14-15  “And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.  And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you.  I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

Mark 14:25  “Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.”

Matt 26:29  “But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Together, these statements indicate that Jesus has eaten and drunk the last Passover on earth, until God’s Kingdom is established and he renews (takes up) where he left off.    It seems as if the Crucifixion (his suffering) was but a hiatus in His long term plan to renew his physical fellowship with the disciples.

He seems to see beyond the next few hours and days (which are but a necessary break or gap in the sequence of events) and looks into the earthly Kingdom where the intimacy and fellowship will be renewed as if the long intervening period (Church age) never existed.

As Paul later stated – it was a feast we are to observe until he comes. 1 Cor. 11:26.

Jesus said "with desire I have desired to eat this Passover..."

WHY?   That particular Passover was a sad, poignant, and tragic affair, imitating as it did, His near future role as the Passover Lamb.

I believe he desired it because it indicated the beginning of the Kingdom, and His return “in the air” (e.g. Upper Room) where fellowship will be restored with his disciples.

It seems in Jesus' mind, the events in between were but an interruption in the programme.

We understand from Daniel 9:27 "And aafter threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off..."    Perhaps Jesus will take up where he left off....at Passover.

Something to remember as we approach another Passover (Thursday 13th April) and Easter Thursday which is on the same date this year.

God Bless.    Annette
